i dont think saying that someone is like a son to you means you only have a finite amount of love and acknowledgment to give to sons. i have seen this argument about that scene so many times and i apologize but i find it a bit baffling.

this isnt rly an artoirel critical post. he does grow a lot during heavensward
but you can just see from these two lines how he feels a certain rivalry with haurchefant who again, never rly stood a chance against him in the grand scheme of things in ishgardian society.
he thinks the few times haurchefant requests something and gets it as their father never saying no to him.
haurchefant himself admits that he barely goes home and barely talks to his father in the letter in the side story
it's obvious artoirel has a bit of a complex when it comes to competition with his half-brother (who lbr never had a chance against the first born proper heir in the first place??)
i understand artoirel likely grew up with strict expectations as the first born and so--
