Also, I think a lot of political commentators know all of this, deep down. It's just easiest now to say "Well, the primary is in two years, so what's the harm in keeping mum?" It's conflict avoidance - easier to go along to get along. But the harm is real and profound.
Everyone left of center is working overtime to maneuver themselves into the personally advantageous position of always criticizing Dems, never defending them. But if we all do that we're going to have a heck of a time ever digging out of this hole. Someone has to bite the bullet and be honest.
I don't think that Dems should be above criticism; in fact I have criticized them quite harshly, in national press, in the last month. But I do think that one thing needs to be FIRMLY established as completely nonnegotiable: in 2028, we're voting for the Democrat, not MAGA. Zero compromise on this.
We know this in part because WE JUST WENT THROUGH IT. People spent years attacking Biden with complete reckless abandon, and excusing it by saying "We'll of course rally everyone back in 2024." It didn't happen! The miserable reputation you had created dragged us into oblivion.
The reason that it's important to establish now that WE MUST ELECT THE DEMOCRAT IN 2028 is that you won't be able to get people back in the fold if you spend three years attacking Dems as a feckless party that's possibly no better than Trump. The damage we suffer now will hurt us in the future.
