The image shows the cover of "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. The title and author are at the top of the image in light text on a black background. Under the author's name is a gold embossed seal indicating the book is a Newberry Medal winner. To the right of the seal is the black and white image of an elderly man's face with a large beard. In the lower left corner of the book is an image of pine trees with a pale, orangey yellow sky in the background.

A poem by Langston Hughes titled "Tired". It reads as the following:

"I am so tired of waiting,
Aren't you,
For the world to become good
And beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
And cut the world in two --
And see what worms are eating
At the rind."

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.

The image shows the cover of a book. Large, white, mixed-case letters spell out the book's title "the Clan of the Cave Bear." White letters also identify the book as a novel by Jean M. Auel, proclaim that it spent over 5 months on the New York Times bestseller list, and indicate that it is a sweeping saga of one remarkable woman that begins at the dawn of man. The lettering spans from the top to the bottom of the book and is overlayed on a scene of a cave with a tree and some foliage nearby.

The image shows the cover of a book titled "Shapechangers" by Jennifer Roberson. The title and author are written in capital letters on the top third of the cover. Just above them is a thin scroll that reads, "Chronicles of the Cheysuli: Book One," also in capital letters. Under the author's name is an image of a man with shoulder-length hair in a blue tunic and pants, wearing a ornate scabbard at his waist and gold bracers. He is looking forward. There is a wolf in front of the man. The wolf appears to be looking back at the man in a friendly manner, with its tongue hanging out of its mouth as though it's panting. There is thick green foliage in front of the pair and a large shadowy tree in the background. The image is bordered by two columns that are etched with runes. At the top of the columns is an archway that features two carved lions stretching toward an etched diamond.

The image shows a crocheted 3D Christmas ornament of a gnome with a fluffy white beard. The gnome is wearing a pointed hat with horizontal red and white stripes. The hat is pulled down to his nose, obscuring his eyes. There is a white tassel at the top of the hat. There is also a red loop visible near the top of the ornament that can be used to hang it from a tree branch.

I've got my first holiday bazaar coming up and I'm loving these gnome ornaments I'm making to sell. I got the patterns from Easy Quickly Toys on Etsy and they're a little tricky because of how the patterns are written, but I really think they're turning out cute!

The image shows the cover of a book titled "The Girl Who Owned a City" by O.T. Nelson. On the cover of the book is an image of a confident teenage girl. She has shoulder-length brown hair and is wearing blue jeans and a green long sleeve shirt with the sleeves pushed above her elbows. Her thumbs are hooked in her jean pockets. Sitting on the ground at the girl's feet is a much younger girl in a pink shirt. The little girl has a dirty face and looks scared. She's got her arms wrapped around her knees, which are pulled up to her chest, and she's holding a doll in the crook of her elbow. There is some rubble behind the girls. In the background are some buildings that appear to be on fire. Above the buildings, the sky is orange and laced with smoke plumes.

I never got rid of my copy and reread it often. Such an important read. I still remember having to say "I love The Jungle" to start every class while reading it because the teacher knew most kids hated it. It feels timely right now...scary how easily we could slip back to that unregulated horror.

"We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel… is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.”

The image is of a book titled "The Wings of a Falcon," a Scholastic Point-Signature novel by the Newberry Award-winning author Cynthia Voigt. There is a large image on the book cover showing a man wearing a long, black, hooded cloak that is billowing in the breeze. The hood is lowered and there is a mask that resembles a black bird's face perched on the top of the man's head. The man has one leg raised in front of him so that his black booted foot is resting on what appears to be the summit of a mountain. The man is wearing green pants tucked into his boot and is holding a long walking stick diagonally in front of his body in one hand. His other hand appears to be holding his cloak closed at the neck. There is a light fog around the lower half of the man and the background features the peak of a mountain in the distance, the sun, and a cloud. Written on the top right of the image is the phrase, "A quest for truth."
