The daft thing is that with Proportional Representation there'd be no need for this self-destructive war within Labour. It could split into its component parts - left and right - and people could vote for what they wanted. It's only First-Past-the-Post that forces these irreconcilables together.
Pleased to have contributed to this BERA Blog post, 'Questioning exclusionary practices in education' alongside my colleagues Victoria Bamsey, Elizabeth Done and Dr. Vivienne Kachollom Rwang. You can find it here: www.bera.ac.uk/blog/questio...
This is what makes a great teacher, so you most definitely are!

The DecodME logo (with a Santa hat) in a polaroid-style frame on a starry background, marked with a bright star labelled ‘11’. Text says: ‘Thank you for being #ThereForME, DecodeME team!’ and ‘Advent Calendar 2025’.
Graphic of a letter on a starry blue background. The letter says “Dear Chris Ponting & the DecodeME team, Your DecodeME findings are a huge scientific and emotional milestone for people with ME. Thank you for driving research and hope — we’re grateful you’re #ThereForME.” Hashtag #ThereForME at the bottom.
December 11th. Thank you for being #ThereForME, @decodemestudy.bsky.social !
Earlier this year the team, based at the University of Edinburgh, released groundbreaking research findings, revealing distinct genetic signals in people with ME. Nominated by Michael. ✨
Pleased to have been a part of the team that worked on this paper, published this week, on Pedagogical Partnerships for inclusive education. A big shout-out to all the pupils, families, educators and mentors who bring these projects to life! doi.org/10.1080/0007...

Great news. It must be soul-destroying to keep resitting an exam in which the content is mostly inapplicable in most jobs. I would advocate for most pupils to sit Functional Skills Maths Level 3, while those who have a strength in this subject could opt for GCSE Maths.
This is tragic...
On that, I challenged myself to present an ePoster rather than my usual go-to of a ppt presentation. Thank you to those of you who attended the session, asked thought-provoking questions, and offered interest and positivity in my work. I hope to be back for BERA 2026 with an update!
Great to have attended my first British Educational Research Association (BERA) conference in Brighton last week! It was heartening and inspiring to attend some fascinating sessions on a range of topics, and my brain is fizzing with ideas and the drive to complete my PhD research.
Thanks for including me - esteemed company indeed! Onwards for true inclusive education...
An underlined quote in a book that reads as follows… “The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply. – Stephen R. Covey” And I feel it is important to mention here that I was not the one that highlighted this quote (because I’m not a monster). Again, just to reiterate, I, Adam Sharp, do not, now or ever, go around highlighting passages in books like some kind of savage.
Today is World Listening Day so it's a good time to share this again...
Very interesting blogpost here via British Educational Research Association (BERA), highlighting the challenges for teachers - and pupils - within our current education system.
Time for a shift away from content-heavy teaching, and towards person-centred learning?

Great list, and interesting article that makes me wonder if socio-economic status should be a protected characteristic...
We could instead overhaul the current education system which is content-heavy and set up to make those who learn better through other means feel like failures. www.theguardian.com/education/20...

You should care about disability rights even if you don't care about other people at all. If you stay alive long enough, the question of whether you’ll become disabled is less a matter of if than when. #MS #PPMS #MultipleSclerosis
Pleased to have been invited to present my research at the #BERA Annual Conference 2025 at the University of Sussex. An opportunity to meet others with similar interests in #inclusion for #childrenandyoungpeople with #chronichealthconditions.
They've unwittingly given you so much to write about. All the best with your PhD - it sounds very much needed.
Love the etymology of the English language! So rich, thanks to all the people who have made these islands their home over thousands of years. Long may it continue…
