It was really great to visit this amazing exhibit in DC this week.
Go by and see it before March 6th to see one of the country's only collections of prison photography by incarcerated folks of their own community and environment.

Yep... The Obama administration ushered in the largest trend of detaining families since Japanese-American WWII incarceration...

I love how so much of the Austin restaurant industry has stepped up for our immigrant friends and neighbors, in big and small, public and private ways.
Here's another great example benefitting the irreplaceable Casa Marianella.

This is 18-mo-old Amalia waving to me when she was detained.
She was hospitalized with a respiratory infection while at ICEβs Dilley facility for immigrant families.
Sheβs one of dozens of detainees who I spoke to via video and phone calls, letters and an in-person visit. π§΅1/
"Many of her Jewish residents were distraught at the prospect of losing their Haitian caregiversβand asked if they could hide them, as some gentiles had done for Jews during the Holocaust."
As a parent, it's nearly impossible to read these stories without breaking down.
It's on all of us to make sure these kids and their families come home.
The people who did this, and those that enabled it, must be held to full account.
How many people have, like me, googled what time the half time show is today?
AWFUL news tonight. This blesses the βmandatoryβ detention in the 5th Circuit without bond (and little chance at habeas) of every undocumented immigrant who originally entered across the border, no matter how many decades in the past.
It will fuel ICEβs push to transfer people to Texas immediately.

a childlike drawing of stick figures behind bars
A drawing by a 5-year-old girl detained at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas with her mother Hayam El-Gamal. βI am 5 years oldβ is written at the top of the page. Lower down, next to stick figures, are the words βlet us go.β Courtesy of Eric Lee, Lee & Godshall-Bennett, LLP

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti βWe are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the βheroβ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trumpβs murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.
Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti.
"Please get the truth out about our son."
Top two articles are about ICE abducting a 5 year old and a 2 year old.
Below that, news about a historically large protest and general strike.
Then articles detailing how ICE lies about their actions and how the White House makes/publishes fake images about the anti-ICE protests.
In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.
He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.
At the time of Maherβs detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Waelβs caregiver put his life at risk.
Wael died on Friday at age 30.
ICE caused his death.
They didnβt get to say goodbye.

This is pure, unabashed bigotry.
If a politician said this about any other faith, they would rightfully be run out of their party.
But this kind of despicable anti-Muslim rhetoric is so normalized that a sitting Senator uses it without consequence.
A stain on our Congress.

MLK Jr. said America suffers not just from "the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people."
Remember this.
The DHS officials who have selectively targeted people to be detained and deported for truth-telling will need to be held fully and swiftly accountable when this admin ends

Detention Watch is hosting a series of webinars about immigration enforcement and detention. I think this is a great idea for people who are wondering what they can do -- get educated and meet people.

Sure feels like we need to shut down ICE until our country's representatives can figure out what is going o
A man who praises Hitler, says all migrants are criminals, & that "all Black people are foreign" continues to be an ICE prosecutor.
To say this system is rotten to the core is a dramatic understatement.
As always great reporting by @stevanzetti.bsky.social for the indefatigable @texasobserver.org
This thread is chilling....
But I love very calm Minnesota man imploring the ICE agents threatening him to "go to church."
It's the Minnesota nice bless your heart.
