Now the astronaut mean but EM Forrester is the closer astronaut in the astronaut with the gun is replaced by Ned Ludd
Famous astronaut meme but instead of the astronaut with the gun itβs EM Forrester the British author
But he left us in many ways the record that shows how long this has been the vision how much this is inherent in the project
And itβs not magic he was surrounding himself with the people who were on both sides of the eugenics fight and who were really discussing and envisioning the world that became the blueprint for the following 120 years
It still blows me away that EM Forrester correctly described this in 1909

They say that something isnβt well put until itβs simple and Iβm not there yet something is turning when Iβm ready I will come back and start again I have something to say about capital, ecology, power, etc. Iβm very concerned about some of the tools that are being used right now
Combinations of beings are not modeled by metaphors, but emerge from su(pe)rvival constraints. The result is not a βstoryβ but a valid transformation. we can, together, learn to identify when an explanation collapses due to premature typology, and to enforce rigorous refusal of that collapse.
I said that not clearly I didnβt mean that the line would crash arc. I meant the file processing would crash arc but it happens easily on just a little MacBook
Gigantic rasters that would crash your PC with arc would run on a little macbook or linix machine fast just through a single terminal command like:
gdalwarp -r average -tr 10000 10000 moon_dem.tif moon_dem_coarse.tif
I don't talk about GIS much but I'm currently TAing a lot of students in GIS classes and i'm realizing that most people are not taught that you can do most stuff with a single line in terminal that could crash arcgis.
with gdal and a postgis database, you can do 99% of GIS in the terminal.
"It is interesting to contemplate a tangled bank, clothed with many plants of many kinds, with birds singing on the bushes, with various insects flitting about, and with worms crawling through the damp earth, and to reflect that these elaborately constructed forms, so different from each other, and dependent upon each other in so complex a manner, have all been produced by laws acting around us. These laws, taken in the largest sense, being Growth with reproduction; Inheritance which is almost implied by reproduction; Variability from the indirect and direct action of the conditions of life, and from use and disuse; a Ratio of Increase so high as to lead to a Struggle for Life, and as a consequence to Natural Selection, entailing Divergence of Character and the Extinction of less improved forms. Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving, namely, the production of the higher animals, directly follows. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone circling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved."
A man goes to the doctor.
Says he cannot entertain himself.
Doctor says, βGo see Pagliacci, the clown who entertains all and only those who cannot entertain themselves.β
The man bursts into tears.
βBut doctor,β he says,
βI am Pagliacci.β

Alt text: Two-panel Simpsons meme. In the top panel, the school bus driver from The Simpsons grips the steering wheel and says, βDONβT MAKE ME TAP THE SIGN.β In the bottom panel, a hand points to a posted sign. The sign reads: β’ βNo single ontology organizes the Anthropocene.β β’ βDifferent landscapes operate through distinct assemblages of beings, practices, and infrastructures.β β’ βEcological processes are patchy, contingent, and historically layered.β β’ βMultiple ontologies coexist without reduction to a unified explanatory system.β The joke follows the familiar βtap the signβ meme format, where the character insists people read the sign that already states the point.
