our unit deals with ancient religion! we most often see proposals reading ancient mediterranean sacred texts and/or sacred practices (inc but not limited to Hebrew Bible and New Testament) through spatial theory.
A graphic soliciting SBL proposals for the Space, Place, & Lived Experience in Antiquity unit by March 9. 1) A panel on space, place, affect, and atmosphere. Possible treatments might be the relation of space, place, affect as they relate to spooky or haunted places; terrifying spaces and experiences of terror; disgusting spaces; ones that are associated with ecstasy; spaces associated with insanity and its experiences; etc. Proposals should include a statement of the theoretical apparatus (for example, cognitive science, Deleuzian frameworks, psychological theories, biological frameworks, etc.) deployed to discuss such dimensions; 2. Open call.

The strips of paper with paragraphs on them are now arranged in different tidy groups on my floor. Floor = Turkish rug with lots of colors: bright green, sky blue, marigold, and a deep pink.
Anddd it worked. Many darlings were killed / saved for a different article.
I cut up a draft to rearrange it on the floor. This photo shows stage 1: a bunch of paragraphs on different slips of paper, all heaped into a pile all over my desk. Chaos reigns.

ritualizing. for me this often means turning all the lights off, lighting some candles, and getting on the floor with my laptop.
lighting candles = because it helps externalize / materialize time passing instead of just me in the void with my doc. so during the day i often use an hourglass.
just in time for course planning on apocalypse next semester!

My book, _An Exotic Apocalypse: Revelation and the Appropriation of Judaism in the Roman Empire_, is officially forthcoming with Penn State University Press. It'll be the inaugural book in their _Religions in the Ancient Mediterranean_ series.
Also love the weird, provocative, implicit contrast he briefly draws between AI and archaeology as research methods - will be chewing on that for a little while.
