We all treasure the characters in Pride and Prejudice, but if you had to pick just one, who would be your favourite character?

In celebration of Talking Books’ 90th birthday, we've created a special edition of Pride and Prejudice. rnib.in/TalkingBooks90

Major bank and cafes could be coming to Wirral's libraries A MAJOR bank could be looking to move into a Wirral library as a council looks to bring in cafΓ©s and other major changes. The news comes as a…

Sorry, but as a librarian, I wouldn't want this. Libraries are there for people to read, look at books they want to borrow and get help with computers. There are many cafΓ©s around in Wirral, and banks should be their own entities. #Libraries

Given the toxicity of social media, a moral question now faces all of us: is it still ethical to use it? | Frances Ryan With so many platforms rife with racism, misogyny and far-right rhetoric, there must be a point where decent people walk away, says Guardian columnist Frances Ryan

β€œThere is a deep irony that the platforms we seek escapism in are increasingly the most glaring demonstrations of the very darkness we wish to avoid.”

I wrote about social media’s descent into Nazis and A.I porn and why we don’t log off (but Keir Starmer should). www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

When ministers defended Starmer over Mandelson’s links to Epstein this week, they rushed to X - a platform that lets users strip photos of women and girls.

Is it surely time for the government to log off X? And is social media too toxic for all of us?

Β£27m is a good start for libraries, but really it's a start only; we need much more to build up our libraries again from where they fell off in 2010. Some of the non-fiction books in my branch is getting closer to 20 years old. #FundLibraries

Your local librarian here to say that it’s great if you read lots of books this year, alright if you read barely anything, that audiobooks, romance and graphic novels are all valid formats and genres, and that some authors suck but we’re still not stopping you from reading them.

When I think of artist Rowland Hilder’s work I think of winter scenes of rural Kent.
But I also love his London landscapes

Chris McCausland: Seeing into the Future review – the comic just can’t hide his emotion in this mind-blowing show He tries to play the stoic in this look at the incredible changes to disabled peoples’ lives that tech could bring. But the radical benefits of one piece of kit leave him visibly moved

I reviewed Chris McCausland: Seeing into the Future - a mind-blowing doc that does a great job of showing how tech can transform disabled people’s lives (but could do more on the tension in how much of it is made by The Worst Men On Earth). www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...
