Join the revolution! But it's the chill, cordial, bring-out-the-best-of-science kind of revolution, just so we're clear.

Also, there are going to be some REALLY COOL papers in this special issue, so get in now!

Around Tday a few years back I was lured by the pic of a gorgeous crimson colored cranberry curd pie - every bit as delicious as lemon curd, and not healthy at all lol (though, cranberries have antioxidants riiiigghht?)
Now if we just ADD some pecan peach crisp..... I'm on board for all of it🀀

🀣 But that looks so much more colorful in the staged, filtered pics than brown rice and black beans and soggy kale...

There is indeed some blue sky peeking through! Hope my fellow West-coasters are holding up ok, this atmospheric river is living up to it's name in our parts πŸ’¦πŸ™ƒ

Tooooeeee beeeaaans! 🐾
Yeah my first instinct was hare with the pattern of front feet landing and then back feet together, but defined toes had me second guessing big squirrel maybe... More please! I'll look through my archives for some to share πŸ™ƒ

For #SundayFunday, here are my cats on supervised outside time! Would they rather be off leash? Yes. Would they be at risk of injury from cars, mortality from wild predators, and kill native animal species that are just trying to get by? Emphatically yes. So, this is our compromise πŸˆπŸˆβ€β¬›πŸ’ž

But otherwise, tot agree! 😺

50 Collective Nouns for Groups of Animals What's the correct way to describe a group of your favorite animal? A "bunch of worms" may sound like a lazy descriptor, but it's correct.

For #Science #SundayFunday , a list of absurd animal group names. What's your favorite?

(Hard to beat 'A memory of elephants', though I think 'A wake of vultures' comes close!)

Hi! I'm Bryn (she/her), and most of my professional life has revolved around surveys for terrestrial mammals (special soft spot for mesocarnivores 🧑). I'm on hiatus from academia, but have just about recovered from my PhD to be thinking about what's next! In the meantime, I work with kiddos! πŸ‘¦πŸ»πŸ‘§πŸΎπŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

3/4 As we had predicted, the probability a site will be used by a female with young is positively associated with hardwood trees - these have been shown to provide food resources by previous studies in Maine. Meanwhile, the history of disturbance at a site does not seem to have a negative impact!

2/4 The parameterization to include transitions from any initial state to the next state being either used by adult bears only (state 1) or used by a female with young (state 2) took some long hard thinking, but hopefully it will be useful to others interested in using a similar approach!

🚨 New paper out!
1/4 We collected camera data on black bears in Maine and included the demographic state - either a lone adult, or a family unit, and after four years we were able to run multi-state, multi-season models to look at the influence of forest harvest on occupancy and transitions 🐻🌲🌳

Ooooph I feel this to my core. But you're almost done, hang in there! And you know what, I was starting to wonder if the spark would ever come back... but after a year and a half I'm finally feeling refreshed and enthusiastic to get back into wildlife work! I guess I really needed a break ❀️
