There were other semi-official nude beaches before the mid-70s. San Gregorio (between San Francisco and Santa Cruz) has been active since 1966.

British Naturism is an excellent and well-run Naturist organization. Naturists anywhere can join, even if they don't live in Britain. Their quarterly magazine alone is worth the price, and there's a great discussion forum too.
