Last year Daisuke Amaya (the creator of Cave Story) began drawing a really cute web comic series about a cat girl artist trying to find love. It's called Ame Choco Gamila and can be read on Daisuke’s website in JP and English. Highly recommend giving it a read!

some of the tops also cracked open during baking which didnt happen the first time i made them despite having a stronger dough this time around
i think i rolled it too thin so maybe aiming for 6 pies is good plus makes it easy to double the recipe for a full tray

i did 1.5 times the custard recipe and it filled 7 (ate one) small cupcake sized pies plus there was enough dough left for maybe 1 more?
ill probably double the custard next time and maybe make a batch chocolate

splash of milk did the trick and the dough was MUCH easier to handle

oh and the custard is a pretty normal polish vanilla custard and is a truly glorious substance

there might also be some regional ingredient differences at play? according to polish wikipedia (has articles for polish shortbread and the babezczki not in the english) the best type of flour is a coarse one and adding milk or cream might make it less crumbly so i guess ill try that

however looking up polish shortbread gives recipes that are 3:1 by weight, which is closer to 4:1 by volume and also have a few egg yolks

the dough is a shortbread with egg yolk which scottish style shortbread doesnt have
the scottish kind also usually has a 2:1 flour to butter ratio by volume whereas the awaira recipe is closer to 4:1 by volume

tried making the pudding pies from awaria but i found the dough to be really crumbly and hard to work with which is what some other people who also made it have said
