REVEAL IS TOMORROW!!!!
REVEAL IS TOMORROW!!!!
Academic conferences are a lot of work, in many many ways, but they also sometimes put you in a room with a few people who are excited about the same weird thing that you are and you kind of info dump about it for a bit.
I have been advocating as a library professional for full text searchable but no LLMs. But also I am hesitant to want a lot of older literature digitized because they are just feeding the machine.
True. Many cats do better in pairs. And better not to separate siblings when you can.
A light purple sign with my picture on it. Text: Brampton Arts Organization, Brampton Library, Fold. Writer in Residence. Suzan Palumbo. Suzan is on site at Mount Pleasant Village Branch Library from March 3rd-April 25th on Tuesdays from 10 am to 3 pm, Thursdays from 4 to 9 pm. Email events@bramptonlibrary to reserve your appointment to talk about writing
There's a purple sign with a picture of a goth at my local library with info on how you can ask writing questions or get your work reviewed.
I just break out some paper and crayons, whatever works!
Listening.
Stop talking and listen.
Shut up and let people talk.
You may learn a lot.
The graves dug for 153 Iranian female school children who were killed by an Israeli-American strike.

Here's an article by linguist Paul Baker and a link to his 2019, which I have not read yet. It was probably not exclusively gay subculture. Some straight folks probably learned it who worked for cruise ships and the like. But hard to say.

It's hard adjusting to doing less with less.
Doing more with less is so last decade. Welcome to the '20s.
And it takes a long time to fix that in yourself.
One of the later arcs of My Hero Academia concerns now top hero Endeavor unsure how to reconcile with the children he alienated, how to train the next generation of heroes, and what being strong means. He got what he wanted but it sucks actually and at what a cost. Something to think on.
May you find some relief in your work.
It's vital. As much as "the Founders" are referenced casually as of late, how much events were complicated and unsettled for decades. Some of my work in progress includes women's Louisiana land claims post 1803 that referenced how their economic rights were more extensive under Spain.
Silhouette of a woman with an enormous updo hairdo, long 18th century gown, and an absurd hat perched atop.
How can you be talking about HISTORY with everything that's going on. 18th century history? Women's history? Waves hands.
Friends, it is precisely because of everything that's going on that we need to talk about history much, much more.
I was do some degree, and I had to confront my biases in college under the tutelage of some patient professors. But I never considered having them written up or sued for standing their ground.
You can be kind today, hope good things, give aid and just not tell anyone. A former boss would tell me, "God himself will reward you" when I didn't want to be patient and kind to college students. Just doing good wherever you are, when it isn't easy.
This made me have a thought. Before writing instructors/groups would give a writer a prompt and the writer would write the story by themselves using their brain.
Now ppl (who are not writers at all) prompt a machine and the machine writes slop.
The prompt dynamic has changed...for the worst.
It is eliminating all the nuance of voice, dialect, place, and sentiment. Just infuriating.
Passing billboards calling on me to "respect life."
Respecting life means bread not bombs, justice not prisons, kindness not cruelty, peace not war.
I think that it is bad to bomb elementary schools. I apologize for being a Purity Leftist, wanting a pony, things of this nature
Exactly! And the results should be wildly different. Entire anthologies are built on one prompt! The machine will just give you the same mediocre results.
I first heard "County Roads" sung a capella in the library when I was a grad student. The night shift librarian was Peruvian and swore it sounded better in the original Quechua. "different mountains, different mama," he said "but still relatable" ๐

The lesser of two evils is the basis of our form of government I am afraid.
Looking forward to it. Your theme lately seems to be family? ๐
You can choose not to be a horrible person, given the choice. You started off life naturally not so bad then you learned otherwise by example. So... Do some good today. Set a better example than you got.
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
I think the US national history doesn't talk about the War of 1812 besides it led to Andrew Jackson's rise to power because it was a time when the US leadership had more dreams than substance. And almost no navy.
The Monroe Doctrine of 1823 was a statement with nothing behind it.
He held a conference for French midwives and took their recommendations for improving maternal health then a few months later defunded it to invade Austria. Like, so close.
Just submitted my fourth history conference paper proposal of the year... Pray for me ๐
Don't get me wrong I like being all academical. I just haven't presented this much since ...
