Iโve read so much about how badly Mill Pond smelled before they filled it in; if i ever get my hands on a time machine, i know where iโm going first.

South Bay? Thereโs no bay here! Just a shopping center!
Astoria the Wild Turkey, The Battery's Queen, on a recent evening. ๐ฆ โค๏ธ ๐
Two wild turkey hens trudging through a snowy yard. The shadows are long, it is a wintry afternoon. Some half buried bushes are poking out of the snow in the foreground and some tree trunks and a plowed road can be seen behind them.

I think this Turkey is done with winter

Close-up of a wild turkey tomโs face. He is rather โhairyโ, has lots of tiny hairs/feathers on the top of his head and on his pulled-in snood (a hairy little rhino horn at the moment). He has a wart? (some kind of red pimple) over his eye. Snowy driveway and part of a snow shovel visible behind him. It is well below freezing.
๐ชถ Hirsute Harry over here looks like heโs been through hell. Heโs seen things.
Ah, sorry! Was a long time agoโฆ
Dunno, Ziba, why not follow the trail of corrosive landmines these two have left for you and find out?
Nice yard!

To figure out what works best to fool surveillance planes. This was a year before D-Day, so they had to simulate europe on a tabletop since field testing wasnโt an option.
And also to come up with stuff like this:

Hingham used to call Weymouth people โthe sweatiesโ because they were the ones mowing their lawns
Nah, Hingham is way more Marblehead. Old money. Weymouth was shoe factories and people who mowed Hinghamโs lawns. But Weymouth hasnโt been โcountryโ since they put the railroads through here in the 1890s.

The blizzard was still going on late Monday morning. Astoria the Wild Turkey left The Battery to explore. She initially sheltered by a vehicle near the Staten Island Ferry terminal and ate some snow. ๐ฆ ๐งก โ๏ธ

I'm 81% sure it was a Wild Turkey.

Teddy Ballgame by all accounts was a mean sonofabitch; this still seems like some sort of revenge by his son to me. Pretty sure he wanted to be cremated.
A wild turkey tom standing amidst some strewn peanuts in a snowy/icy driveway. He is very blue and red in the face, and was very puffed up a minute ago, that means heโs trying to assert his spot at the top of the pecking order. Also, his feathers are very iridescent and coppery, they have a nice metallic sheen to them.
๐ชถ There might be 400 feet of snow on the ground, but this lad knows itโs time to start asserting dominance again. Spring is coming.
Peanuts (unsalted; shelled or unshelled, they donโt care) or sunflower seeds/bird seed mix. Theyโll also eat most nuts, dried fruit, bread and multigrain cheerios if thatโs all i have. Omnivores.
Had an oil change once at a service station; they forgot to put oil cap back on. Took me half a mile before i smelled oil coming out of every vent. Drove right back, mechanic had the cap in his pocket. At least they were mortified and wiped the engine down as best they could. Still stank for months.
Did you at least yell at the plumber?
Free idea: goose foot booties for turkeys; iโm sure thereโs a huge untapped market there!
๐ชถโฆaaand itโs snowing again.

A bare deciduous tree with four wild turkeys roosting in it. Theyโve tucked in their heads so they appear like eerie black lumps. Itโs the tail end of an all-day blizzard, but itโs still coming down hard and the wind is whipping. 19โ/48cm snow so far.
๐ชถ If youโve ever wondered what wild turkeys do during a blizzard, here you go. They stay in their trees, tuck in their heads and hang on for dear life.
