Check out my new co-authored piece on @justsecurity.org
In it, we discuss how crises can be catalysts for change in international law.
Join us for @abilaofficial.bsky.social International Law Weekend in NYC this weekend to explore this theme in more detail.

I donβt think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.
This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make whatβs happening now look like childβs play. And people are disappearing.
Check out this excellent thread from @eliothiggins.bsky.social on what misinformation is, the dangers it poses and how empowered citizens and critical thinking are vital to democracy.
This is cruel. Children will die because they canβt get the treatment they need.
This SCOTUS doesnβt care about the American people.

Please consider submitting a proposal for our Emerging Voices Panel at @abilaofficial.bsky.social International Law Weekend 2025. This is a great opportunity to present before a prominent international law audience + get feedback from experienced scholars.

If this can be done to a U.S. Senator, in full view of the press, no one in this country can feel safe.
Love this, Bec . Congrats again!!
Please read or watch OCHA head Tom Fletcherβs remarkable and damning UNSC briefing.
So let me get this straight: masks are bad and un-American if worn to fight a pandemic, but good if worn by people claiming to be government agents when they kidnap people off the street
This @motherjones.com piece captures the horror + fear of ICE agents disappearing a woman without a warrant, while hiding their faces. Cowards.
And then the Worcester Police steps in to help ICE + arrests a distraught 16 year old whose mother has just been taken.
Itβs disgusting.
A true scandal. One of the biggest free speech violations of our lifetimes and yet the people who screamed about free speech on campus for the past decade were either responsible for the violation (Trump, GOP) or ran cover for it and enabled it (Bari Weiss, Fox, etc).
I am glad I am now registered to vote and have more protections as a citizen to be able to speak out against the many injustices occurring daily. Iβm glad to be here and wonβt stop fighting for a better tomorrow for all. 4/4

There is so much hostility towards migrants, cruel policies that separate families, disappearances from our streets, and deportations and/or imprisonment without due process. 3/4
That is the promise of America - that anyone can come here, be welcomed, and make a life for themselves.
Unfortunately, that isnβt the moment we are in now. 2/4
