Utterly beautiful, heart-wrenching piece. The sunset lighting, the shadows of live(?) birds in flight against their extinct, immortalized counterparts, the sightline composition… I would love a print of this but I fear it would make me cry several times a day. 🥲

Speculative designs for a Shadows variant of Roy based on a red panda. Chibi style, very unserious; lineart and colors are digital and flat, but the pencil sketch remains underneath, marginalia included. Left: Neutral form; has panda ears, tail, and red stripes running up his cheeks toward his eyes. Tufts of white fur strike out from under his ears. His eyebrows are slightly bushier and white on the outer ends. He looks ahead with tense determination, trying in vain to offset his cuddly appearance. Right: Shadow form; full panda mode, striking a mean paws-up intimidation pose. Clothes are mostly intact, minus his boots and gloves. A little belly fluff is poking out between the plackets of his overshirt. His eyes are glowing purple and his mouth is wide open in what appears to be a roar, but is more accurately an aggressive squeak.
