A table of values containing the NHL records of the top 6 teams in the league as of the morning of Nov. 13, 2024. The table has two point total columns: one for the international/PWHL point system, and one for the point system the NHL currently uses. The top 6 teams are Winnipeg, New Jersey, Minnesota, Florida, Carolina, and Los Angeles, in that order. In the international/PWHL point systems these teams would have point totals of 42, 34, 32, 32, 31, and 30, respectively. The Winnipeg Jets currently have 30 points using the NHL's scoring system, which, when naively compared to the international/PWHL system, would have them in a tie for 6th in the league.

if every other team in the league were to use this system except for the jets, meaning the other 31 teams got 3 points for regulation wins, and the jets still only got 2, the jets would be tied for 6th in the nhl. bonkers statistic.

this excel sheet also tracks the point totals of the teams if the league switched to the international/pwhl point system of 3 points for a win, 2 points for an ot win, and 1 point for an ot loss.

so starting last season i have made an elo system to see the relative strength of #nhl teams and this season the jets are absolutely unreal. they are so far ahead of the pack in this system that its almost comical to look at.
