Thank you! Really trying to get my hand and eye back in after not practicing for a bit. Now to see if I can handle a bit of writing, too. Hope your projects are going okay!

Portrait practice. I can never get a single drawing method to work for me. I've tried the Loomis method so many times and, honestly, if I follow it all the way through I just end up with muddled proportions. I don't mind starting that way and veering off depending on the reference, though.

Sometimes I'll spend time around some very nice and funny people, and afterwards, even if I enjoyed most of it, feelings of social ineptitude and post-social malaise will eat all the good until the memory becomes warped with a sense of inferiority.

I lost my keys. I got really worked up because everything feels big right now, and I'm keyed into things going wrong. Five full house searches. Much upset. They were deep in the pocket they should have been all along. This constant greyness of sky is not good for my brain's grey matter.

My recommendation for end of the week read! I was lucky enough to see an early draft, and it remain a poignant, philosophically-informed piece of science fiction.

Feeling like a miserable bastard this evening. I hate winter. I hate the cold, the damp, and the fire in the fireplace, spewing particulates. I hate candles. Actually, I generally hate naked flames around the home. Work provides enough burning smells. But it brings my friends joy, so I grump here.

This flagrant lying has been one of the most unnerving things for me about recent events. There's seems no response that came make any dent.

This morning was beautiful. So I sat inside and looked at a screen and read. Now I want to go for a run, and of course, I've left it until it's raining.

It never feels like I've eaten that many until I see the dragon's hoard of empty shells piled before me. (So for me, the answer is apparently very many.)

I feel a bit that way about litfic in general, genre-mixed or not. I keep thinking that maybe I'm just not the right reader, and then I'll find something that blows me away.

Dare Seize the Fire, Jennifer R. Donohue This isn’t how I’m supposed to die.

Have you read my 2025 short story, "Dare Seize the Fire"?

Awards-eligible! Contains sirens! and smoke jumping!

I read a lot about sheep behavior for the sake of a couple of paragraphs!

My colleague's hair is turning purple. He claims his housemate, another colleague, has sabotaged his product, though he also said his barber suggested something odd is going on in town, because he's the second bloke whose hair has a purple tint. I'm not convinced he didn't try to dye it Arsenal red.
