Recently ran a study on Prolific where we tried our best to counteract AI use (preventing copy & paste, among others). The survey had a dropout rate of almost 50%.

Thank you to Paul HΓΌnermund @p-hunermund.com , Jermain Kaminski @jermainkaminski.bsky.social, Carla Schmitt, and Beyers Louw for organizing the #CDSM25 event again this year. Well facilitated, great speakers and I loved the 80 minute poster talk sprint! I learned a lot.

mitochondria from bipolar patients are closer to the nucleus in these images; control patients' are spread out further
15 years in the making, we confirmed that mitochondria - the powerhouse of the cell - have an unusual localization in patients who experience psychosis (including schizophrenia and bipolar disorders). Youβll never guess what kind of patient cells we used to make this discoveryβ¦ π§΅
That are the long term effects of ZDF Fernsehgarten.
Rankings are always reductive and oversimplified. Except this one that just put us at #1, which is clearly based on rigorous methodology.

Interesting new paper on βA Dozen Challenges in Causality and Causal Inference.β After 30+ years of progress in causal inference, the authors lay out the biggest challenges in current research. Good teaching resource!

This doesnβt necessarily hold true at the micro level, however. Extensive research demonstrates how German families systematically re-narrated their own family histories and participation in the Nazi regime.

Coding county-level data in Virginia is interesting. In Virginia, 38 independent cities are not part of any county and are treated as county-equivalents by the U.S. Census Bureau. Also, South Boston is a VA town.

A picture of the American Cemetery at Margraten, NL.
Remembering on Liberation Day π³π±. The soldiers at Margraten, NL, many in their 20s and 30s, fought and died for our freedom. Their sacrifice reminds us: freedom has a price, we must always be prepared to defend it.
They say donβt judge a book by its cover, but ... business journals really dress like theyβre in witness protection program.

Illustration of a computational workflow for cultural evolution that connects abstract theory to real-world data. The arrows indicate logical and computational dependencies among theoretical, statistical, and scientific elements of a project. For example, an effective inferential model depends upon generative models, a question about those models (estimand), and the structure of the available evidence (sample).
