Yes there are clear differences. But both Rodney King and Alex Pretti were essentially on the ground surrounded by law enforcement officers. In 1991 it took around 72 hours before public opinion, left and right, solidified - going strongly against the officers.
This story isnt over, but in examining the the Alex Pretti killing, I think it may be useful to look 35 years ago to the fallout after the beating of Rodney King (I covered that case). On Sunday I talked about a potential similar shift in public opinion on @cbcnews.ca
