Just found out Fredrick Brennan died. I only met him in person once, but I always had a lot of respect for his personal growth and ownership of his past. More than anything, I respected his commitment to changing himself for the better.

And people very often do t understand how their pay works , and if it varies from pay period to pay period, they may attribute it to factors that don’t exist.

Trump is really revealing the people who actually had beliefs that meant something to them and those who don’t. It’s deeply weird being on the same side as people whose beliefs I fundamentally disagree with. Insert Big Lebowski quote and/or “you don’t ever have to hand it to” quote here.

You could argue they’ve been doing that for years. You could also argue that they know Congress is broken, and by declaring solutions to specific problems under the purview of Congress means they won’t be addressed at all.

My immediate thought as well. He lies faster than they could say “lie.”

If we frame it right, they’d do it with no coercion required. Perhaps we could tell him it’s for the LULZ, or that it will guarantee engagement on X.

If a person actually needs an accountant to do their taxes, then the IRS doesn’t have the information required. But if you are an employee with a W-2, and don’t have significant financial activity outside the norm (aren’t a landlord, don’t gamble, etc) then the IRS can do your taxes for you.

And I would submit that the person who works with the IRS on the systems they use to process taxes knows more than the accountant. The IRS has spent the past decade+ working with financial institutions to get the data they need to do the taxes for something like 75% of taxpayers.

They do send all that to the government. The government just can’t share it with you. The IRS was working on a pilot program to prepare your taxes for you, and DOGE killed it.

Not true, it absolutely does. For most people, it knows what you owe ahead of time, it just can’t tell you. Your employer, your bank, your brokerage of you have one, they’ve all sent the IRS the numbers. It’s just not allowed to share them with you until after you file.
