2025 upkeep to the edible xeriscape at @beaconfoodforest.bsky.social — I found a sport of our star cold-hardy prickly pear, which I’ve caged from ravenous rodents. Today I seeded purslane and Moroccan poppy. Earlier we expanded below the hugelkultur with sansho, Szechuans, capers, and currants.
Last weekend’s progress on the new urbanite wall at @beaconfoodforest.bsky.social — made of recycled sidewalk concrete slabs a.k.a. ‘Urbanite’, ranging from about 400-600 lbs each. This wall creates more ADA-accessible path space, bench seating, and clean edges for the permaculture guild.
Winter herb harvest from @beaconfoodforest.bsky.social for a potato-leek-kale soup I’m cooking for tomorrow’s annual fruit tree pruning class and workshop. Lovage hasn’t begun to leaf out yet, but rosemary, chives, and bay leaves are plentiful year-round.
