i’m carless and based in philly, all broken electronics will have to be transported to me! i am in nyc quite frequently and could fix something there for you at a community makerspace!
i prefer to work via trades (we can come up with something comparable together, after diagnosing what’s wrong with your machine i’ll have an idea of how much time i’ll need on it and what parts —if any— need to be ordered). if you would prefer to pay me that works too !
this is not a side hustle and will not be treated as such, i don’t have an interest in making a business out of this lol. it’s a slow and meditative process for me and will be treated as such!
also happy to do electronics lessons a la carte if you don’t have anything to repair! can be a one off or a multiple sessions depending on what you’re craving.
we can do this as part of your repair if you’d like a lesson on what i am doing while fixing gear. there is a lot to learn from circuit boards; they look different depending on what year they were made which is something we can talk about during repair sessions.
i also want to offer tutoring services for some basic electronics skills, such as soldering wires together, using a multimeter, circuit bending, testing continuity, and possibly other things depending on your needs and interests.
i am not the person to ask if you need a smartphone or newish computer repaired (unless it is a wire or component replacement on a computer). i am not trained in screen repair/replacement. i am also not the person to ask if it you are having a software issue / incompatibility!
i have mostly repaired audio equipment because that is what my people bring me (cdjs, casette players, synths, guitar pedals) etc., but i am happy to experiment and try my hand at other stuff. :)
a lot of broken electronics are very easy to repair. most of the time it is a missing connection we can fix by adding a wire or a broken part (capacitor, power jack, etc) that can cost anywhere from 5 cents to five dollars. most of the work is spent unscrewing and screwing the casing + diagnosing.
