Any deep thoughts and insights I acquire at the end of each episode of Evangelion, are completely erased, as that banger of a theme song springs into action when the next episode starts playing ๐

Elon saying heโs going to reprogram his chatbotโs view of history is a perfect example of why these kinds of AI products arenโt the neutral โtoolsโ people always defend them as. Theyโre little political projects reflecting the ideologies of their creators
I desperately want to know the context of whatever beautiful Regency-Passive-Aggressiveness is going down here ahaha
Webcomics are the Zines of Comics.
Both in the OG "No barriers to entry: just print, copy, and staple"-sense,
and the "Has blown up into a thing with professional/high-achieving expectations on it and now people think they have to be making polished/premium work in order for it to count"-sense.
OMG that's amazing!! What on earth are the odds of that?? ๐๐
Do you feel like you have a nostalgic connection to Whisper of the heart in this way too? I was thinking earlier about it after your last reply, and I do feel like the nostalgia element probably also brings out a magical quality for me~
yes! Maybe that intertwining of that life and normal life ๐
Strangely for me the one part that feels 'normal' (but nostalgic)to me is the violin making and musicians, cos I grew up around that! Amazingly, my mum's first ever job was as an assistant for making Fiddles in London ๐
I love how Whisper of the Heart makes ordinary life feel so magical and charming somehow. Maybe its the combination of the themes, music and that lovely classically Ghibli pacing and animation?
I watch it whenever I want the mundane to feel beautiful.
I want to make something like that one day~

Speak Up by Rebecca Burgess - the cover has a girl with red hair wearing a green hoodie and blue headphones, at a desk with a book, chewing on a pencil. Above, in pink sparkling clouds, is a girl with the same hoodie, purple hair, blue eye mask, singing into a microphone
The back of the book featuring the same two girls and the blurb "For Mia, being herself has always been hard, especially when she's trying to fit into a world that doesn't quite see her true autistic self. But she gets through school armed with her headphones, listening to music to tune out her classmates' bullying. While Mia wishes she could just speak up, she's been able to say what she feels through singing and songwriting while her best friend, Charlie, helps put together the best beats. Together they've taken the internet by storm. And little do Mia's classmates know that she's the viral singer Elle-Q! But when the chance to perform live has Charlie excited, Mia isn't so sure. She'll have to decide whether she'll let what other people think get in the way of showing everyone, including the bullies, who she is and what she has to say."
I bought Speak Up by Rebecca Burgess for kiddo on Monday at @portalbookshop.bsky.social
Kiddo finished it tonight and declared it the best book they've ever read โฅ๏ธ
Brilliant graphic novel about an autistic girl finding herself through music
The cover spread from a one page zine printout. The left (back cover) features images of a scale and gavel, with notes on First Amendment and filming rights, and the advice to โshut the fuck up.โ On the right is the cover, a megaphone with the title text โPROTEST SAFELY.โ Behind it are faceless protestors. The subtitle notes, โA brief collection of tips from around the internet.โ
A spread from one page zine printout. On the left is an illustration of a protestor with the title โWhat to Wear,โ including a helmet, goggles, ear plugs, gloves, a mask, a backpack, and layers/long sleeves/pants. Each have additional notes explaining their use. On the right is โWhat to Bring,โ featuring illustrations of a backpack, money, water bottles, a mask, a granola bar and bag of trail mix, a first aid kit, folded shirt and pants, and an ID, with โDIY Defenseโ listed underneath it showing one protestor using a luggage case, one holding a trash can lid, and one using an open umbrella as a shield.
A spread from one page zine printout. On the left is โProtect Your Identity,โ advising to cover up identifying features, avoiding photography of protesters, deactivating biometric phone-unlocking tools, and writing emergency contact and counsel numbers on your arm. On the right is โBe Like Water,โ the motto of the 2019 Hong Kong protests, and the text โBEWARE THE BAITโ with images of a palette of bricks and a masked man holding a crowbar toward a protestor with a sign, โPsst, free crowbar?โ encouraging the reader not to engage with traps and undercover agents.
A spread from one page zine printout featuring the hazards of protest opposition, including tear gas, rubber bullets, and LRAD sound cannons and flash bangs. Caution tape images accompany the text explaining the dangers of each, how to flush out eyes that have been maced/etc, and how to extinguish a gas canister with a traffic cone.
I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentallyโฆit seems the file has breached containmentโฆlike itโs available for anyone to print or hand out ๐โ๏ธ

Baby bison zoomies alert! ๐จ Meet Samson, the newest (and speediest) member of our Free-Roaming Area herd. Born over Memorial Day Weekend, this fluffy little calf has already mastered the art of sprinting joyfully across 435 acres of forested fields like he owns the place. ๐ฆฌ
A long shot reveals a bustling room in a Parisian apartment, full of mostly men (outside of the famous Madame Manon Roland, a Jacobin who went about her own political ambitions by setting up gatherings for her male collegues and writing to them afterwards). Across the busy page of people drinking wine and socialising, musical lyrics are being sung aloud: โGentleman! Letโs make haste! To the Jacobinโs own senate! Itโs here that we will meditate, all the happiness of the state! And Robespierre, we shall see, praises Marat so eloquently! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! From Avignon, to good Arle! The Lameths speak, Alexander and Charles! And we are all transported then! Eh! Eh! Eh! Eh! When Gorsas shows, we never joke! Even when heโs inclined to boast, his oh so rare integrity! Hi! Hi! Hi! Hi! An author may be talked of much, but if a Jacobin he is not, then he can only be a fool!โ At the bottom of the page, we see that the two culprits of this Jacobin song are themselves two of the proudest Jacobins- Camille Desmoulins and Jacques Brissot. They are in each otherโs arms and singing heartily: โHu! Hu! Hu! Hu!โ
The two men explode into laughter. Robespierre sits quietly in the background, clapping along with the rest of the audience who were watching the double act. A close up of Robespierre shows tired eyes and a smile that although genuine, is clearly taking effort to make. Brissot looks at Camille with a confident smile- who replies by flipping his hair vainly. Brissot: โThat was marvellous, Camille! Where do you pick up these songs?โ Camille: โOh, h-here and there.โ Brissot smiles with slight annoyance, and Petion comes up behind the two of them as Brissot asks: โwhat on earth do you mean by that?โ Petion puts an arm around a smug looking Camille and says: โIt means Camille is a hero of the people-โ
Petion continues, exchanging a playful, knowing glance to Brissot: โHe is invited to places that even someone as well travelled as you have not been, Brissot.โ Camille responds with smugness: โItโs true. The p-people love me.โ A close up of Camille as he begins to go off on a little tirade that has probably been heard a thousand times. He flips his long messy hair as he speaks: โI am commended for my bravery on July 12th, and complimented on my p-pamphlets at EVERY dinner I attend.โ Camille continues: โEven when they b-burned copies of La France Libre in Toulon- Although I wanted to weep-โ Camille doesnโt look like he wanted to weep, he looks proud of himself- โI felt much reassurance. For the m-most esteemed patriots said it was only a testament to the strength of my work. AND Iโve heard it be saidโฆโ Camille in the foreground, puts his hands to his face in a swooning manner as he says: โThat I write with the arrows of Hercules.โ Behind him, Petion and Brissot both share his speech bubble, indicating that they are repeating Camilleโs words at the exact same time. Petion repeats with nonchalance, and Brissot with a pose semi-imitating Camilleโs dramatic nature. They have both clearly heard this phrase hundreds of times.
The little song on this first page is a real song about the Jacobins from 1790, if I remember right~
And I got the 'arrows of hercules' thing from a letter Camille wrote....I really like to imagine he'd tell his friends about that more than once loool

I feel like most of my followers know this but because I see a lot of cis folks who have a specific blind spot for it:
This includes the theme park. I don't care if you want Butterbeer or want to get a wand or are already there so why not just walk in. It's all Her. Everything with the name is Her.
