I never did get any Big League cards. Not sure I ever saw them. But I loved Topps Opening Day.

My cards are worthless to most. But the memories and relationships I’ve built by collecting them are invaluable to me. This page is about collecting “worthless” cards, having fun, reliving memories and building new ones. Also, I'm a Detroit sports fan.

Finally picked up my first Kevin McGonigle card. 2025 Bowman Draft Axis. I like it. Cool design and pretty inexpensive. I like that it shows him fielding and batting. Hope I'll be able to get his Tigers cards for years to come. #CardSky #Tigers #thehobby #baseballcards
Congrats. Good looking set. I have very few of those cards. I remember saying that there was no way I would pay a buck for a pack of cards.
So nice to watch the Tigers game on TV without it being littered with gambling odds and ads. Hope it stays this way during the regular season. Difficult to find a game on TV without those things anymore.
Stretch! I've been telling myself for years that I need to get a Willie Mac card. Your '75 is a cool card. Very nice!
You always come away from the LCS with cool cards. Do you have a buying strategy at the shop? Mine is pretty much, "That's a cool looking card and not too expensive. I think I'll get it." Or, "I'd like to have a card of that player." But I do have a list of Al Kaline cards I'm looking for, too.
Thanks! I haven't seen them yet, but I'll definitely check them out. Appreciate you!
And the mascot cards were a blast!
Was anybody else a fan of Topps Opening Day? I used to love them. Collected them with my son. Inexpensive cards, smaller sets so mostly star players. Was fun to pick up a box and rip packs from time to time. #CardSky
It's a fun place. Kind of busy so it was pretty tight in there today. Didn't get to spend much time looking at the cases, but hope to soon. Can't wait to go through some of the vintage boxes, too. Left a lot of cards in the Tigers box, so I'll have plenty to consider when I go back.
I have not. I've seen one when I was driving through Oklahoma, but I wasn't able to stop. When I lived in Texas, I used to buy Earl Campbell sausage, though. 😀
Forgot, there's also a 2021 Leaf Draft Riley Greene.
- Billy Sims 81 Topps RC and 81 Topps Super Action.
- Zoom Zoom 2005 Bowman Draft w/IP auto
- Sweet Lou '85 Topps D3
- Mark Lowe '16 Topps Heritage (there's a story there)
- Greene '21 Onyx Vintage
- Anderson '24 Bowman
- Clark '24 Bowman Chrome
- Melton '22 Donruss EEE die-cut 207/209
My son got some Lions, Tigers and...Braves. Oh, my.
Billy Sims is my all-time favorite football player and I've wanted those cards for as long as I can remember. I remember being upset that the Lions had the gall to give away Billy's number 20 to Barry Sanders. Now, I appreciate the lore of the Lions #20.
My son and I went to Orlando Sports Cards for the first time today (we've lived here 8 1/2 years...it's about time). Wow. So fun. Between us we picked up 23 cards for $30...and had a lot of fun. Here are my 10 cards. Can't wait to go back. So much more to see. #CardSky
That's so cool. Love Gummy Arts. So talented.
Nice! THIS is the kind of content I've been looking for!
I'm with you, Trevor. Huge Riley Greene fan here, too. Great photo!
Nope, but that Riley Greene would probably be my favorite one. Favorite current player, favorite team, great photo, local guy (attended one of my kids' rival high schools). I'm gonna have to look for that one!
I've always wanted to get that card. Love it. Love the crowd shot in the background. 1959 Topps is one of my favorite sets.
This is so cool. They sound like years-long projects.
Us Tigers fans and card collectors gotta stick together!
I really need to read more blogs. From what I've seen, most of them seem more up my alley. I've wanted to write a blog (to the point of purchasing a domain), but just haven't done it yet. Not sure I have anything to say that would interest anyone. It would be about collecting "worthless cards."
I will do that. Thanks!
I'm a sucker for a good organizing/displaying video or article! I used to be a big set guy but I downsized considerably (moving often tends to make you more willing to get rid of stuff). Now I have certain things I lean toward...and branch out occasionally.
And, my friends and I all had a Beckett each month. That magazine was invaluable to help us keep trades fair. Although everybody knew I was going to give a great trade for their Tigers cards. We were baseball/sports fans first, so the cards were an extension of us. It's just different now.
As a fellow old man (I can't believe I'm an old man now...I swear I was a young guy not long ago), I'm with you. I understand, though; I can see how it would be hard to ignore the "hustle" side of it. I guess it's just a different experience than what I grew up with.
I'll check out dime box discoveries. Thanks for letting me know about that one!
Does anyone enjoy just collecting cards anymore? Been watching a lot (too much?) of videos about cards on YouTube over the past couple months. Almost every video/comment is about how much you can get for a card(s), prices, bad actors/breakers, industry vs. hobby, etc. It's exhausting. #CardSky
