A large adult male turkey with long tail feathers unfurled, colors of chestnut brown with black, brown and bronze, quite grand. Closer to the camera is a female turkey with buff, brown and black feathers. She is much smaller. These turkeys are part of a flock that live in our neighborhood in Woburn Massachusetts.
#WorldWildlifeDay
We have a lot of wildlife in our suburban Boston neighborhood and the turkeys are particularly grand to see.
π¨ It looks like the UK government is gearing up to upend copyright law in favour of AI companies, legalising the theft of their work.
This is despite creatives' huge protests, and despite previous proposals being roundly rejected by the public.
Please spread the word.

Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google.
My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence!

βI watched him dieβ¦ then I watched them maneuver his body like a rag dollβ only to discover it was because they wanted to count the bullet wounds and see how many they βgotβ, like he was a deer.β
I wrote up a long analysis of the issue here, for those interested:

This DHS memorandum says that the DHS General Counsel's office has adopted a new position that the Fourth Amendment allows entry into the home to make an arrest just based on an administrative warrant.
I would like to see that argument.

A lot in common: primarily totalitarianism & one leader who must be obeyed. If you look at Umberto Eco's 14 points on Ur-Fascism (NYbooks, reproduced below) who will see plenty of common ground between Hitler's Nazis, the CCP & the current Trump/Musk regime.

States that give more than they take: Connecticut, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Washington, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, California
These are the only "donor" states, per the Rockefeller Institute of Government(2023). There is a theme.

Since the subsidies were first expanded in 2021, allowing more people to qualify and lowering their payments, millions of Americans have benefited. A record 24 million people enrolled in Obamacare for 2025, with a vast majority receiving some tax credits. Many were self-employed or worked for small businesses that did not offer health insurance.
Rather than using the passive voice ("subsidies were first expanded") in paragraph 3, it would have been helpful to remind readers that Congressional Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan in 2021, which expanded these subsidies, without a single Republican vote.
Musk let DOGE run roughshod over Social Security at the expense of functionality and consumer services. If he ran his companies this carelessly and stupidly, he wouldnβt be rich. Heβd be a bankrupt failure. Gift link π wapo.st/4pheQks
In case youβre settling into this winter lamenting not having read everything The Atlantic has published this year, youβre in luck. The Atlantic managing editor @bhumikatharoor.bsky.social created a list of stories you may have missed that are worth your time. See the full list:
The post office changed their postmark rules, potentially disqualifying votes in upcoming elections.
Postmarks indicate when the USPS processed mail now, not when you dropped it off.
To ensure a same-day postmark, you must visit a post office and ask for a manual stamp.
Are these the files you boxed up from the Biden era probe into Epstein co-conspirators and shipped off to DC after you killed the investigation and fired the prosecutors? Youβve had these since January. I call BS.
There is a tremendous opportunity for a brand new generation of media outlets to rise up right now because many news outlets that spent decades painstakingly building their credibility are seeing it torched by bootlickers with incredible speed.
Rablin shares *4* ways to center learning more prominently in your classroom (without entirely revamping your grading system).
βYou can start these changes tomorrow without overburdening yourself.β

Years back I worked on an active plan to mitigate permafrost emissions by planting trees and bushes to not only capture more CO2, but to help oxidise the methane.
