Thanks SOS/BirdLife SK for organisation!
I belive that beyond the talks, the energy, knowledge, and collaboration among participants made this event a valuable experience for the BirdLife youth community.

Back from "Birds Without Borders", great meeting of youth
@birdlifeeurope.bsky.social groups from 🇨🇿, 🇸🇰, 🇵🇱, 🇭🇷 and 🇭🇺.
I was glad to present my research on seasonal shifts in migratory bird habitat preferences, showing how eBird data can reveal spatiotemporal patterns useful for science & conservation
Did you know? More than half of the 650 species of North American breeding birds migrate. Discover the basics how, why and where in this article: www.allaboutbirds.org/news/the-bas...

Oops!… I did it again! This poster won 1st price in student contest! But more importantly, I found so many great people working on similar topics. Definitely enjoyed this conference 🌌🐦
Happy to be at #EOU2025! 🐦🏙️
If you want to know, how does urbanization impact migratory bird seasonal distribution (and you didn't manage to come to my poster yesterday), don't hesitate to find me and ask!

According to 2011 census, 85% of citizens from this region identify as Hungarians. However, their political views are noticeably different than those of Hungarian majority or, as the foreign results surprisingly say, of Romanian diaspora. Doesn't prove anything, but definitely interesting
Zakládání nových tůní nemusí vždy krajině prospět. Často dochází k ničení kvalitních mokřadních biotopů, ústupu jejich specializovaných druhů, zhoršování kvality vody a vysychání okolní krajiny.

Řešení je mít nejdřív opravdu kvalitní základní školy nabízející dostatečné možnosti rozvoje všem žákům (to teď fakt nemáme, a ani k tomu nesměřujeme😕). Až je mít budeme, možná začne nějaká diskuze o rušení přijímaček dávat smysl.
Tím, že se gymply zruší, se kvalita základek zázračně skokově nezvýší - pokud se to vůbec povede, bude to za 10+ let. To znamená generaci nadaných dětí bez adekvátního vzdělání.
A jak by se to prosím, podle vás, mělo měnit? Rušit 8r gymply? Obzvláště v těch velkých městech, kde je největší přetlak, kvalitní alternativa není.
And last—but definitely not least!—on April 1st we launched the podcast series of @birdlife.cz!
The goal is to popularize bird research and conservation in accessible, engaging, and accurate way. New episodes every two weeks, featuring exciting guests. Stay tuned!🐦
A few weeks later, I joined the EUFLYNET COST Action meeting in Tarifa, Spain🇪🇸.
Inspiring to see the collective progress of the effort to understand the causes behind the decline of European migratory birds and to help propose effective conservation measures. Proud to be part of it 😁
In February, I presented our research on seasonal changes in habitat preferences of migratory birds at Czech zoological conference Zoologické dny.
It was a great opportunity to discuss it - I'm looking forward to even more future discussions next time… and maybe even some collaborations!
Long time no see! So many cool things happened since I posted on Bluesky previously. So, here’s a little update thread!🧵
Even though we didn't spot the lynx, it was a great trip - we saw many great bird species, and our #trailcam also recorded some nice animals. We also tried lots of great Spanish #food and #tapas! So, at least we all definitely have a good reason to come back again one day.
This region really loves the Iberian lynx - and you can see it everywhere. I was really surprised by the level of #wildlife tourism. However, if people really don't disturb the lynxes, I can imagine that such publicity can help their protection and the conservation of whole region.
Last weekend, I went a little south of Spain with our little fellow Czech group. The goal was to see the distinctly different Spanish landscape, ecosystems, and animals that live here - and also, if possible, spot the Iberian #lynx 🐱
And, surprisingly, even #birds! Their winter diversity and abundance can be higher around these manure heaps - it is one of the many small things that can though help with the heterogeneity of the agricultural landscape.

These small heaps of manure spread across the fields provide perfect substrate for its fruiting body. But these mushrooms are not alone! Beside them, organic manure also helps a lot of other species.
Found this very nice alien-egg-looking thing today!
Even if it doesn't look like a classic mushroom, it is a #fungus - probably Peziza vesiculosa
(CZ: řasnatka vosková)
A very nice citizen science project on mapping black redstarts wintering in urban areas. The data from the last two years look more than interesting - can't wait to see this year's results! 🌇🐦

Little Madrid diary 3
Out of many species that are super-hard to see in Czechia, yet are absolutely common here, vultures are truly exceptional for me. I still remember the first time I went to the supermarket here, and one flew just about 20m above my head!🤯Though I didn't see one that close again🙁
Whoa! Can't even imagine that - I'm super happy even when I check and see photos of the common animals 😁
Don't get me wrong, forestry is very important, and I know that only a small part of the forest can be truly old-growth. On the other hand, the recent bark beetle calamity gave us a chance to turn more forests into something better than wood plants - but I am afraid we have missed this chance.
Although this is not comparable to negative changes in open-landscape agriculture, forestry changes in the last century also had a major impact on forest biodiversity. E. g. this is the change in range of western capercaillie (however, partly caused by tourism and disturbance):
Good news! However, it is sad that instead of trying sustainable forestry nationwide, we have to celebrate small successes in relatively little national park.
A lone Puffin stands in silhouette on a grassy cliff, framed by a vivid orange sunset. Its distinctive beak and rounded form are stark against the fading light, evoking both beauty and fragility. The scene captures a quiet urgency, reflecting the gravity of nature's erasure from the latest #COP29 text.
BREAKING: The latest #COP29 text falls woefully short.
The finance package is too low, too weak, while critical acknowledgement of nature has been entirely erased.
This is more than disappointing, it's dangerous. 🚨
Leaders—don't walk away without fixing this.
