Trying, trying, trying to imbed a single track but technology isn't having it. So, here's the entire LP for your delectation. It's great. And if Juice Pops are on here, please fill us in on their details.
Thanks to Psyklones for yesterday's set at CYCM @fcunitedmcr.bsky.social @theoddies.bsky.social youtu.be/OW1uw72aDm4
MUFFIN-FLASH!
Our resident muffin-meister has returned from her travels foraging for exotic ingredients. Today's baking masterpieces will be Tiramasu inspired, they're a trifle Italian π - get yourself to that football ground. See you under the SMRE.
Fiona, whose sharp, funny storytelling guides us through the pitfalls (and occasionally the actual falls) of navigating life, questionable hobbies and the general nonsense of being a functioning adult. Expect laughs a plenty.
Join us under the SMRE at 1pm, performances start at 1:45pm.
Rosie delivers dry, understated observations on the awkwardness of making adult friends while chronically overthinking absolutely everything. An old soul with a baby face, she leans into the knowingly uncomfortable and makes it playfully relatable.
And because one comic simply isnβt enough for Malcolmβs (weβre expanding- emotionally and geographically), weβve got not one but two brilliant wordsmiths making the trip over from Leeds. Yes, theyβre bravely crossing into civilisation.
Performing on Saturday is Psyklones Manchesterβs most intriguing musical collective, back where they belong and bringing something absolutely electric with them. Their recent release of their album Ballet of Snipers Alley is worth a listen.
This Saturday at Malcolmβs, weβre turning the volume up and the vowels down (sorry, Yorkshire) for the usual pre match ritual of pies, pints and performances (please note: peas canβt be officially included in this list as may be poisoned due to ongoing tensions across the Pennines).
Thanks to Doctor Doctor for a fine set at CYCM yesterday. @fcunitedmcr.bsky.social @theoddies.bsky.social youtu.be/SxEdZB_NC_w
Baz presents his Ode to Odious Jim Ratcliffe before introducing our poet, Fauzia. Arounf 14.15, Doctor Doctor will prove to us once and for all which song they were most-influenced by; βDoctor Doctorβ by UFO or βDoctor Doctorβ by The Thompson Twins by burning the stage to the ground.
Join usπ» π€
Usual victuals will be in place; freshly-baked pies Droylsden pies, lovingly-softened mushy peas, mystery muffins and beer. This weekβs guest cask ale is Zappa!, a bold US hopped 4.2% pale from Ramsbottom's Brewsmith.
Doors at One, when the pies arrive to take their place in the pie-warmer.
Doctor Doctor, currently playing dates in the North, including one at Big Hands in town, the night before they join us on the Caring Stage, with Malcs alumni, Fireblanket. If youβre further out of town, they're playing a free gig at The Ferret in Preston on Thursday night, along with two other acts.
And how. Playing for us on Saturday, before the game against Gainsborough Trinity are London-based garage gods, Doctor Doctor, with the always-valued spoken word back-up coming from Fauzia Agbonhin, a Nigerian-Canadian slam poet and author of βI Never Truly Hated Youβ, a selection of her poems.
This time weβre back like an injury time Fitzmartin winner. At one point we didnβt think we had a band for this week and were considering the nuclear option of a three-pronged spoken-word attack, but Sam has come through again.
Dream popping into Saturday afternoon with Manchester band Nice Things.
@theoddies.bsky.social
Thanks to Nice Things for the atmospheric set yesterday. Some lush sounds before the football. @fcunitedmcr.bsky.social @theoddies.bsky.social youtu.be/SWY-ZUINyuE
Okiedokie. Fun shit. Weβre one in a hundred xx thankyou #nme100
"Course You Can Malcolm"...the club night in the afternoon...followed by a football match, if you're that way inclined , when you can swear at the ref and not get thrown out, whilst supping craft ale on an old fashioned terrace...Saturday afternoon bliss, for me at least
Our guest pale ale this week is LEFT HANDED GIANT Great Heist (ABV: 4.5%) alongside Holtsβ Red Rebel and Chorlton Pale Ale. Roseβs pies as usual-same peas, different bayβ¦
The perfect pre match warm up. See you there!
To follow - Nice Things, a Manchester-based dream-pop quartet influenced by Men I Trust and TOPS. Expect evocative sounds, hypnotic melodies and captivating vocals.
Their debut single Cornered is a taste of whatβs coming from their debut album, check the link at the start of the thread...
CroppaChoppaβs Slumber Party, the cult sleepover-themed show described as "Arguably the most fun night of comedy in Manchester" (Manchester Wire).
A rising voice on the UK comedy scene, Charlotte is a Words First finalist (Contains Strong Language Festival 2025), shortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Awards 2025, a Funny Women Stage Award semi-finalist, and the winner of Chortleβs Best Live Comedy Format - The North 2025.
Charlotte Cropper, a woman of many talents, comedian, presenter, writer facilitator and one of Manchesterβs sharpest new stand-ups, regular performer at Opener, Middle and MC spots across the North-West, most notably MC-ing the prestigious club XS Malarkey. Quick, playful and βviscerally relatableβ
Weβre finally back at Broadhurst park this Saturday! So join us at 1pm for pints, pies, laughs and live music.
The fabulous Juice Pops at Malcolmses yesterday. They launch their new album at Yes Basement on 24th January. @theoddies.bsky.social @fcunitedmcr.bsky.social youtu.be/cIbU2UtndqA
We welcomed the poet, Louise Fazackerley, to Malcolmses yesterday. Here she is reading some of her brilliant poems including "I Want My Country Back". @theoddies.bsky.social @fcunitedmcr.bsky.social youtu.be/VXi3yIrY0JI
... Louise will take to the Caring Stage sometime around 13.50 and Juice Pops will blow your Hello Kitty socks off around 14.10. A football match will break out around 15.00. All times, apart from βdoors at oneβ and βthe footballβ are subject to change. Avoid mild peril, get here early.
... Weβll also have a guest cask from Shindigger, but exactly which one is currently TBC. There will also be muffins of a mysterious variety, so polish up your pound coins.
Doors at one. Come in, make yourself at home. The Board will kick off proceedings at round about 13.30...
