I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for
his killer being a man who murdered three people including a pregnant woman who he also raped is a perfect demonstration of how βpaedophile huntersβ are just violent men looking for a socially acceptable target for their violence
Same, but John's post prompted me to listen to it just now and I'd forgotten how good it is.

They've killed most of the candidates already, though, haven't they?
Didn't spot that you'd posted this (just posted the same extract).
"The Global Country Averageβ reflects the average result for all the countries and markets in which the survey was conducted. It has not been adjusted to the population size of each country or market and is not intended to suggest a total result.
Yes, figures are a 'global country average' (not adjusted to population size) - extract from technical note below. So, pretty much meaningless, misreported junk.
Again, Farage, Badenoch and their fellow travellers on X are wildly out of touch with the public on Iran.
Even the majority of Reform supporters oppose their position.
Not a defence of McSweeney, but shouldn't you factor in likely overstatement of Labour vote share in polls when estimating the loss of support over the campaign?
Good morning! Yes, this is he
Yes, makes sense to me to have a single number in this context, but would seem useful to update the dataset which the choice of +/-4% was based on after each GE and periodically review.
Though, based on my Rapid Evidence Review of the last three GEs, +/-2% seems to hold for the large majority of final polls for parties under 15%, so an update of the analysis wouldn't go amiss to see whether there's a case for review.
Though the trouble with that is that you're already getting into the too complicated for the purpose territory.
And getting sicker in the head by the day.
I know Luke from working at Kantar Public (I'm retired now), so I'd obviously forgotten that he had been involved in this. Sounds like they were looking for something simple and pragmatic. Don't know about the updating though.
Headline Voting Intention chart in website report.
Rubbish charting by the looks of it. Oddly, a slightly different chart in the pdf deck on their website, which looks fine.

Saves me spending any more time trying to find the analysis which the +/-4% is based on to understand why it's fixed regardless of vote share (I remember the analysis being done, but couldn't find anything on it).
Not gonna lie: much less exciting story than the headline made it sound
I get the strong sense that the bulk of media are calling Starmer's position on Iran entirely wrongly right now. I simply don't believe that most people out there are either as hawkish as the Tories or as anti-everything as the Greens. Being conflicted in the middle seems about right to me.

Windy Mullah.
I don't know - I couldn't find any info on observation methods beyond the categorisation.
Once upon a time this would very much not be the done thing. Everyone would recognise the national security and wider implications here.
Another norm which has faded, that we need to restore
YouGov poll shows more opposition than support for US action and similar for allowing US to use our bases (albeit the rationale for the latter is not given).

Democracy Volunteers now ranks the types of family voting that takes place by three types: 'clear direction', 'collusion' or 'general oversight. The largest category of Family Voting at these elections was 'Collusion'. This is relatively unusual, based on our previous experiences of observing in the UK and abroad, and this is one of the more egregious forms of Family Voting, as it robs a voter of their independence when casting their vote. Clear direction, the worst breach of the secret ballot, made up almost a quarter of all forms of family voting in the UK election observation. Across the UK elections observed, the spread was: β’ Collusion - 34.1% β’ General Oversight - 30.9% β’ Clear direction - 23.5% β’ Other - 11.4%
We are often asked how we define 'Family Voting'; it has been described by the United Nations Development Programme as: "...family voting refers to the situation in which the heads of family (often extended family and often male heads of family) influence other family members in how they cast a vote...Family voting can be a serious violation, especially when it is malicious, i.e., when it is carried out with the intent of influencing or removing the freedom of choice of a voter. In these cases, family voting violates the central principle of voter secrecy......family voting often stops women from casting a vote of their own choice. In many situations, while the woman physically casts her own vote, she is under a strong cultural expectation to obey her husband or father and vote for the candidate or party that she has been instructed to vote for. The influence may extend to accompanying the female family members to the voting centre in order to oversee the casting of the vote."
They break down family voting into three types (+ 'other') and provide a definition in this report ...
