I love the way football pundits try and excuse foul play with a cry of “it’s a contact sport!”.
Well, maybe, but only within the rules that relate to the contact that’s allowed.
Presumably there are enough all through schools now to provide some meaningful statistics as to whether or not they’re a good idea. Anyone have any links to any good research on this?
When many (most?) secondary schools ban all student use of mobile phones on school premises (under threat of prolonged confiscation) I’m unsure why initiatives such as this one are being promoted as newsworthy.

Primary school teaching (Covid issues aside) has never been better.
The current system makes the lives of a huge number of kids miserable, giving them a terrible experience studying maths. In my experience bright kids will usually make the right choice for themselves. My concern here is those at the other end.

If you can’t persuade them and their parents that they should take it then maybe they shouldn’t.
No system works perfectly for every single case. All we can do is make the system so that if everyone makes the “correct” choice the system enables it to happen.
This has been the obvious path for some time.
