Light summer reading:
@bgibson49
Trainee Health Psychologist and Lecturer in Applied Psychology at DMU. I'm interested in long-term physical health conditions, intervention development & evaluation, optimal wellbeing, and supporting advocacy efforts.
Light summer reading:
In addition to my other concerns about AI (ethical issues, concerns about potential erosion of critical thinking skills and creativity) I'm now pondering the mental health implications of a reliance on technology. Do we risk our own decision making and critical thinking? (1/?)

Wouldn't it be lovely to run one's own little private practice?
Love this from @dmuleicester.bsky.social and the @leicestertigers.bsky.social! Great advice for students (and, well, anybody) looking to manage stress and wellbeing!

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic

The DOI is now available! If you haven't checked out Carly's excellent new paper yet, now's your chance: doi.org/10.1177/1359...
Here's me still brainstorming gender-neutral alternatives to "guys" when Chidi Anagonye found the best way to address a seminar hall β¨οΈ years β¨οΈ ago.
I love him!?
This was actually Carly's UG dissertation(!!) so though I didn't have the pleasure of supporting the analysis, it was great to help get this work publication-ready - I learnt a lot about illness and prestige along the way! Plus, it's great to contribute to research into women's health!
We're still awaiting the doi but I just *need* to share the good news: my PhD student Carly Hook has just published her first paper! π₯³
Abstract is below and you can read the full #OpenAccess article here: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....
Have a great day, team!
I am, thanks Ian! This is really interesting work, and I think that critical engagement with "AI" output will be really important going forwards.
We've tried to do our bit - find lots of coverage in our Covid collection www.bps.org.uk/collections/... - but @francesryan.bsky.social is right that Long Covid appears to be 'the public health crisis no one wants to talk about'.
It was such a pleasure talking with researchers, healthcare professionals, and people with long-covid at our event last week. The clear consensus is that people with long-covid feel they are being forgotten about - so their voices (and ours!) are as important as ever!
Don't you know that AI is bullshit?*
*that's actually the academic term. See Hicks et al. (2024): doi.org/10.1007/s106...
Did I mention, by the way, that we (@profmarkforshaw.bsky.social + @dr-katschneider.bsky.social) submitted our latest 'crisis' manuscript on Friday?
This time we've conducted a *scoping* review, one that will be touching on themes around activism and online engagement... π
Coming together works. Collective action works. Peaceful democratic action works! It's just that certain powerful individuals don't want us to think that it does.

Open, accessible science is so important but so is good science communication. We need to be diversifying our efforts and reaching different audiences and I think this will need new and exciting approaches!
Thanks, Kaitlyn π
