Waarom ik boos ben op de manier waarop door sommige collega's en door de UGent met de aanstelling van Cofnas wordt omgegaan

Ik ben een vrouwelijke collega. En hoewel ik het absoluut niet eens ben met het werk van De Vries, vind ik dat Cofnas nog een stuk verder gaat.

En legitimeer je net pseudowetenschap. Maar ik weet dat je het daarmee eens bent, wil het gewoon nog eens benadrukken 😊

Dat ook nog eens. En het is erg gesteld dat die collega's niet zien dat die "ruimte voor controversiële meningen" de eigen deontologische codes schendt en vooral onze niet-witte studenten en collega's. Eigenlijk zeg je hiermee dat racisme OK is.

Ik weet nu ook al dat alle kritiek op deze aanstelling zal afgedaan worden als een aanval op "free speech" of "woke censuur". Weet dan ook dat dat flauwe argumenten om schadelijke pseudowetenschap te verdedigen.

Welke signaal geeft mijn werknemer hier eigenlijk mee aan mijn niet-witte collega's en aan onze niet-witte studenten? Niet alles wat wettelijk kan is daarom legitiem of aanvaardbaar. Het gaat bovendien in tegen de interne reglementen van de UGent.

It's in the bumbling around in the archives (also oral histories tbh) that new ideas are formed and new connections are made. I'm the ineffective kind of historian, but I think that makes me a good one

My problem is I like being in the archives so much that I read so much stuff I don't need directly. I have ideas for 5 books because of that --but struggle to focus on one of these ideas 😭 I mean, why the hell would I let something else do it for me

Yes, I remember that one, but I hadn't thought it through for these "tech transfers" (although I seem to remember A.Kagame having similar arguments about material culture for Rwanda)

Also true, but there is only one of these professions I'm in myself and it's history and there it's glaring for me (I assume it's the same for others, but I can't evaluate it in the same way)

Also, I never understood historians in this list (the Microsoft list)? Unless you have a really misguided idea about what historians actually do?

I love this dialogical format - we paired, commented and asked each other questions - which really opens up the actual research process as it usually happens behind the relatively closed doors of seminars and conferences.
