Late women's day post:
To celebrate, this is Tilly Edinger (suggested by @skyemcdavid.com), a jewish german paleontologist with disabled hearing and pioneer of paleoneurology. She studied the brains of extinct animals including pterosaurs.

Did you know that there are three or maybe four taxa on the Iberian Peninsula that are very similar to Iguanodon? No, of course not, most people who live here have no idea either. And the first one I have reconstructed is Magnananus, a large animal discovered in Soria, in northern Spain.

art of simocyon in a tree
a photo of simocyon's lower jaw and teeth
happy #fossilfriday! bonus: this is simocyon, a puma-sized carnivore from the miocene and pliocene that was related to red pandas. like red pandas, simocyon had a wrist bone called a radial sesamoid, which functioned as a false thumb to aid in a semi-arboreal lifestyle

Arctops goes AHHHHHHH. Its teeth are lightly ribbed and rather serrated, I based its skin texture on hippos and tortoises, with some warts here and there. I'll be adding whiskers to the physical print of this later. Also you cant see it from this angle but he has pallet teeth in the back of its upper pallet, I kinda adore that they could open their mouths SO WIDE (pretty much 90 degrees) that they needed some helper teeth to ratchet prey down their throats.
Including this shot to show off the parietal eye, another of my favorite gorgon features. It was probably mostly for sensing light, you can see them on some modern reptiles and amphibians. Some gorgons had very pronounced structures up there! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parietal_eye
WIP of Arctops Umulunshi. Many thanks to @pinuppaleontology.bsky.social and Christian Sidor for critique and access to this wonderful animal's remains, and for liking gorgonopsians as much as I do! Printing, adding whiskers and painting soon! #sciart #paleoart

a sculpt of Arctops showing more fine skin detail
the same sculpt but from a 3/4 veiw
another closer view showing textures in viewport render mode
Had to re slice some things on my arctops model for printing at life size scale, so I took the opportunity to sculpt in some finer details. We'll see how these transfer to the print, and whether I shoulda overstated them more ;)

I am incredibly pleased with the first blooming of my spring bulbs bed. Idk why the hyacinths are so short but whatever. Tulips are up next, then alliums, and then irises on the edges.
