Coffee as a Staining Agent Substitute in Electron Microscopy
Researchers at TU Graz have proven that espresso is a favourable alternative to the highly toxic and radioactive uranyl acetate in the analysis of biological samples.
☢️🔬 To make tissue structures of biological samples visible under the electron microscope, they are treated with a straining agent: uranyl acetate, which is highly toxic and radioactive. A research team from TU Graz has now found an alternative: ordinary espresso. 😀

Physicist establishes new methods for use in forensic medicine
Claudia Lenz’s MRI method extends detection of strangulation injuries, strengthening forensic evidence in violent crime cases.
Just a few days after the crime – that is usually how long signs of strangulation can be detected. But research by @claudialenz.bsky.social shows that this timeframe needs to be reconsidered: internal injuries can be detected with MRI for much longer than previously thought – up to 12 days.

The Potential of Fluid-attenuated Inversion Recovery to Be the Undisputed Brain Imaging SequenceRadiology
Published in the current issue of Radiology accompanied by an editorial highlighting its clinical relevance: Christina Graf’s new paradigm of RF pulse design applied to T2-weighted FLAIR. We’ll build on this and translate the new pulse paradigm to other MRI sequences.
