Started out in fluorine chemistry, then stable radicals, then phosphorus fluorides, then phosphaalkyne sulphides, then oxathiazolones. Along the way I got a PhD and did some teaching. My students call me Dr Mel but I love my title of Opa. Soon to retire.
Test day today in my courses and I think it says something that in the Physics framing diagrams the stick figures are always smiling. Then again, it could also be that the students are simply happy that once they submit their tests they are off on Reading Week.
Lunch Time Lab Scrapping: my old lab power transformer #74 got dropped. I dismantled it to parts and got: copper, brass, aluminum and iron with total scrap value $ 8.73. It would cost me about $ 400 to replace old # 74 but in the words of Stan Rogers "she won't be replaced should she founder".
