I’m glad so many people have found my β€œcapybara method” for how to write alt text and image descriptions helpful! However, I know conflicting access needs exist and not everyone can write their own #AltText, so here’s an ongoing thread of tools that can help. Inclusion in thread β‰  endorsement

I am very excited to share my simultaneous triple staining method for monocot roots. This method is not only faster but also utilizes a smaller volume of stain than traditional methods and minimizes mechanical tissue damage.

The first version of FigTree was released nearly 20 years ago and it is still widely used (including by me). But there are currently 85 issues on the GitHub repo (github.com/rambaut/figt...) and some of them I don’t really like the look of.

This is the Zizi plant. While it is a common houseplant, it has a lot going for it: a member of the taro family (Arums), a succulent plant, a facultative CAM plant, a non-grass monocot, and highly regenerative (can be regenerated spontaneously from detached leaflets) which is super unusual.

A close-up view inside a dense, misty forest. On the left, a thick tree trunk is completely covered in vibrant, almost neon green moss. Long, spindly branches reach across the frame, heavily draped in the same bright green moss. The background is a soft, hazy mix of dark, bare tree trunks and thin branches, creating a striking contrast that makes the mossy foreground pop with vivid colour and a magical, damp woodland atmosphere.
