Thank you! At an event last night I said "If the word hope doesn't work for you try, 'Never fucking surrender.'" The word hope seems too sunny to a lot of people, but the heart of it as I'm interested in it is: we make the future in the present, if we show up, and that never surrender part.

Anthony the Great vs. Paul of Thebes | Lent Madness

I'm having a lot of fun with this. And what a coincidence, we're doing a series in the saints for lent at church and last night was Saint Anthony and Paul of Thebes! I voted for Paul because I think the ravens are cool. www.lentmadness.org/2026/02/anth...

All good owls! I'd say a great horned owl, or snowy owl. (You wouldn't find a barn owl in the boreal forest. Though they do look awesome, and I'm sure they are magical).

Ok, there are some great songs on the new Mumford & Sons album. Love the collabs with Aaron Dessner, Justin Vernon & Gracie Abrams.

I'm still sad that Harman's closed! It was the best. But I've had great Ethiopian at Gojo and Mesob too.

This is the heart of what's wrong with the progressive tendency to sloganize "trust the science" - science is supposed to be a public, evidence-based discourse that people can be educated into. Turning it into a question of trust or belief just introduces a whole set of problems related to authority

If we've learned anything from the part of our history where we created the extremely powerful, world-changing, uncontrollable new technology of a social internet, it should be that whatever is about to happen with AI will, if nothing else, be extremely dumb.

Same! They've moved on to Cold F/X now, which I think is ginseng. I tried it last time I got sick and my cold was pretty mild, but who knows if that's because of the cold fx or something else.

A very low budget production of "cyber kids". A hacker is trying to take over the world so a group of kids magically go into a computer (like the magic school bus) to defeat him. I got to be one of the hacker's robot minions. Peak 1998.

I really firmly believe that getting on with normal good work done to the best of our abilities is a valid form of resistance to the death and despair dealing powers of our world.
