Italy 🇮🇹 and Spain 🇪🇸 are often considered traditional and family-oriented countries.

Our findings however reveal largely modern family ideals in both, with more modern family ideals in Spain and notable differences by gender and education.

Our new article (with Solera & Vignoli) shows that as gender equality increases, women’s employment becomes less detrimental to relationship stability, and employment-related differences diminish—even in Italy, often seen as a traditionally gendered society.
