You have no idea how many of these I’ve seen in my recent delve into the planner community. ITS EVERYWHERE!! (Also I downloaded one to see myself. It was actually 2,000 pages)

those AI “brain music” apps… “proven my science to enhance focus”…. Where is it? please give me the scientific research + credentials..

“download this adhd planner, scientifically backed to work”… and its a 2,000 page pdf planner filled with a billion things to fill out on every page.. (I’m guessing this actually might work for many people, definitely not me tho. I think this makes my neuroticms worse, actually)

Saw this productivity app that had this tagline “adhd and autism relief” … what do you mean relief..

a big pet peeve.. adhd being used as a marketing tactic by brands to market their new tools/planners/etc.. without the understanding of what adhd is..

And we don’t think enough about what we actually need on an individual level. IMO the only way to know what really works for us is to put everything aside and be like “what do I really need right now to get this thing done” - sometimes it’s a simple to do list, other times it’s a more complex system

My newest experiment Im gonna do next week is to lock away all my tools/planner/tablets and see what I *actually* need to get things done (by going about my day and writing lists if I think I need something). Because I think for us adhd-ers we get influenced by shiny new systems other ppl talk about

This has been the golden question I’ve also been asking myself 😔 (audhd person who is constantly looking for new planning and management systems).. I’ve been on a “try this and see if it works” kick over the past few weeks/months bc I got really fed up with dropping everything all the time!

The covers all looked different but the layouts inside were pretty much exactly the same! I actually gotta dig deeper because I was so amused by all of this.. I will report back on further findings 🫡

What was so funny is that all the planners were obviously marketed towards different demographics. One of them had a very manifestation/spirituality cover meant for the spiritual ppl, another is more simple/gender neutral, and another is marketed as a ~women’s planner~ with the girl boss fonts 💀

AH sorry I did not explain well! So basically these two planner companies have different names so ppl thought they were owned by different ppl. But they looked suspiciously similar and when ppl went digging they realized it was one company behind 3-4 different planner “companies”!! 😭😭😭

Same! They’re so pretty and if I see one on sale I might bite the bullet myself~ I love how simple and light they are with the design too.. I’ve realized I’m someone who just needs plenty of blank space instead of pages of prompts/questions on goals/reflections (which I see many planners do)

Currently, the Japanese hobonichi style planner is all the rage worldwide. Many people are familiar with this and you might even use one yourself! They are smaller planners with a lot of extra pages for notes. They're quite expensive but well known for their quality.

the "dashboard" layout, which all days of the week are laid out in one page and the opposite one is a space for notes/goals/misc. Personally, this works so much better for my own purposes (jotting down weekly schedules in a condensed format).

I also learned some things about planning that I will implement into my own life. For example, did you know that the most common type of planner sold in stores is one with a weekly horizontal layout? I've used those + vertical layouts before, but none of them ever worked for me. I found out about

Alas. This is why it is quite deceptive when you look at Planner Youtube/Tiktok. Many people have beautiful planners decorated to the brim with stickers, washi tape, printouts, neat handwriting. But you don't really see the PLANNING. It is easy to fall into a trap of thinking that beauty = function.

Of course, that is a foolish assumption. It is not about what you buy with your wallet, but in your planning system. True planner peace is impossible to reach, because the way we plan often changes depending on our lives. I learned this from the wise sages on the Facebook group “Planners Gone Wild”

in the planner community, there is a phrase that is often used: “planner peace.” Planner peace is a state of nirvana you reach when you find THE perfect planner + planning system for your life. Many people believe that if they buy the next hyped up beautiful planner, they will achieve this.

there is also other drama. Different brands calling each other out. One of the biggest planner brands was under fire a few years ago when she made a post comparing her daughters staging a “protest/march” so they can have a senior party at their hs graduation, to the BLM protests.

There is some crazy lore and drama in this. One planner brand spread a rumor that their CEO’s wife cheated on him with another planner CEO, and the CEO ripped off the other’s planner design in revenge. Then ppl looked into the business records and found out: both planners are the same company.

Over the past few days I went down a rabbit hole into the online planner community on Reddit/youtube/tiktok (like, ppl who are really into planning things + getting planners + stationary/pens/washi tape) and I need to present my findings on bsky.. it is my new favorite thing:

I haven’t played the games in a bit after Yakuza 7 but for a good while I kept up with them religiously, it feels that every new decision they make is basically retconning any good thing about the whole series. Kind of impressive actually, to completely miss what people love about it.
