Time series plot depicting predicted Nino 3.4 region ocean temperature anomalies from the latest (Mar 2026) ECMWF ensemble. It depicts an extremely rapid rise in such temperatures, from modest negative anomalies to strong positive anomalies, by mid-summer 2026--indicative of a transition from weak-moderate La Nina conditions to moderate-strong El Nino conditions over just a few months.
Whew.
All signs are increasingly pointing to a significant, if not strong to very strong, El Niño event. I'll have more to say in coming weeks & months, but for now I'll just say that this is increasingly likely to become a major regional-to-global climate driver in 2026-2027.

The EU’s CBAM enters a New Phase: Why the EU’s Carbon Border Tax Matters
CBAM is now fully operational.
Major #carbonpricing news this month:
The EU has "fully implement[ed] a functioning border carbon adjustment policy."
In order to trade certain goods with Europe, "importers must now pay for the greenhouse gas emissions contained on their products."

It's ALWAYS about money.
Fire and flood Insurance premiums are going up.
And better sell that beach house.
We must take the money out of #co2 pollution. Start with a fee on the extraction of #FossilFuels. Give it ALL back to the people.

It's always about money.
Put a price on pollution with a fee for extracting #fossilfuels.
Raise the fee on a predictable basis.
Give ALL that revenue back to the people to adjust to a carbon free economy.

Something Dark Is Growing on Greenland’s Ice. And Melting It Faster.
This is a very very bad positive feedback loop.
This will never stop... Unless we stop burning #fossilfuels.
Put a price on carbon and return ALL that money to the PEOPLE.

Abolish ICE, impeach and prosecute the fascists, and then we can get back to ocean and climate science.

An image of a pine forest fire scene where half of the forest is consumed and the other half is slowly being encroached upon by the fire, with a text overlay that reads: “Climate change is accelerating land loss and degradation through wildfires, droughts, and other destructive climate events.”
Climate warming is contributing to increased land loss as wildfires intensify, droughts become more persistent, and storms grow more destructive. climatecommunication.yale.edu/publications..., www.wri.org/insights/lan...

How to (still) be a climate optimist
2025 was a year defined by climate policy retreats in North America — and climate technology expansion in the rest of the world. Good news: Nothing stops this train.
Climate advocates lost some political battles in North America last year, but technology and economics are winning the war everywhere else.
2026 will make the inevitability of the energy transition even more difficult to ignore.

Deeper Decarbonization in the Ocean State
This study – from SEI and Brown University's Climate and Development Lab – finds that Rhode Island can feasibly decarbonize its economy in one or two decades.
Why I support #offshorewind
Southern New England has no other clean energy source available now which can reduce our dependence on imported #fossilfuels, which are driving #climatechange. Here's our 2019 study w/SEI: #OSW rose to the top.
Courts must stop the attack.
