The Global Fallout of Donald Trump’s War on Iran As the conflict rapidly spreads throughout the Middle East, the New Yorker writers Dexter Filkins and Robin Wright discuss the stakes for Iran, the U.S., and the rest of the world.

Trump’s war with Iran is already detonating global consequences—destabilizing the region, inflaming extremism, and isolating the USA 🇺🇸 from allies.
Even some conservative voices now openly call him corrupt, yet the MAGA machine keeps marching. Loyalty over country.

I think there are more options than these three, but yeah, well done. And not just the MAGA racists and fascists, but all of the U.S. Especially those who didn’t vote.

And there is a special place in hell for the people who “refused to vote for the lesser evil”.

You, more than anyone, own this.

This map shows which states with full Democratic control in the state government have bans on 287(g) agreements. Maryland, Maine, and New Mexico join six other blue states—California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Oregon, and Washington—in adopting laws to ban local and state agencies from partnering with ICE’s 287(g) program. New Jersey has a ban in place through an executive directive, though the state’s outgoing governor vetoed a bill that would have codified it into law in January. Four states under full Democratic control—Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and Virginia—still have local or state agencies that have joined the 287(g) program, though there is currently active legislation in at least three of those states to limit or end these contracts.

ICE’s 287(g) program, which allows local and state law enforcement to assist the federal agency, has exploded in popularity in President Trump’s second term. A growing list of blue states has passed bans on participating in the program.

But I live and post in a blue state! How can I possibly affect the votes in purple and red states? My social media posts don't cross state lines!

& like all instances of consumerist approaches to politics, it treats candidates like commodities that are given to a public of passive consumers by a Party rather than figures chosen by fellow citizens in a process. Thats why they keep on with "well dont give us Newsom." Talk to your fellow voters!

1) how did the Supreme Court rule
2) how did Trump/GOP appointed judges rule
3) did Dems have a clear (super)majority to override GOP votes (No. At most a thin majority 48D, 2I, 50R for 2yrs)

Math rules Congress. Know your math.

Tim Snyder: ‘A democracy means the people rule’ Protests do more than fill the streets - they help to shape how institutions behave. The recent demonstrations against Trump’s policies inform judges, pressure lawmakers, and send signals throughout the political system. According to historian Tim Snyder, the scale of these protests, and the moral clarity behind them, can influence how institutions act. “A democracy means the people rule”, says Snyder.

Noem’s firing is proof that protests don’t just fill the streets, they can shape how institutions behave. And judges, lawmakers, and even Trump’s allies seem to be getting the message. Historian @timothysnyder.bsky.social adds, “a democracy means the people rule.” #Velshi

Rebecca Solnit Says the Left’s Next Hero Is Already Here

This happened. The print interview was edited in ways that feel very jumpy, but I got to say some things. Like: Maybe changing the world is more like caregiving than it is like war. Too many people still expect it to look like war. [and then there's a crazy jump-cut w/out transition.]

A year long investigation into the Hyperloop found …

“The truth was far simpler, far dumber, and far more prescient: Musk and his lieutenants truly had no idea what they were doing.”

Trump's National Park Service is selling out Yosemite — and its bears. Park leadership is downplaying the impacts of crowds on wildlife.

"Opening the gates to unlimited visitation — especially at a time when the parks’ budgets have been slashed and a quarter of the National Park Service’s permanent staff has been lost — recklessly places the future of this wild heritage at risk."

Deaths in ICE custody reach 20-year high amid Trump enforcement push Rights groups say overcrowding and long stays are to blame.

Lots of children are being placed in conditions like this. Others are dying in detention, a number that will undoubtedly increase as the number of these warehouses increase.

There is a legal provision in immigration law that someone married to a US citizen can stay in the US while there visa is pending. Immigration officials have long recognized it to allow residency during the wait time. The DHS has just stopped following this part of the law.

The Bygone Era of Supreme Court Support for Voting Rights Sixty years after upholding the Voting Rights Act, the Court has dismantled most of it.

Tomorrow marks the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama. It also marks the 60th anniversary of the Supreme Court first upholding the Voting Rights Act.

We have gotten so, so far away from a Court that cares about democracy.

S.F. immigration courts gutted: 21 judges down to 2 after planned departures At the start of last year, San Francisco's two immigration courts had 21 judges. By mid-March there will just be two left.

San Francisco's immigration courts have been gutted.

Two more judges are planning to leave, Mission Local has learned, meaning the courts will be down from 21 judges last year to just two.

That pushes court dates out, & costs up, for asylum-seekers.

Another terrible monthly jobs report for the Trump Administration and they don’t have a pandemic to blame it on.

92,000 jobs lost in February. One has to wonder how much worse it really is?

Abolish the GOP in the midterms. As long as the cruel & corrupt GOP have majority & are able to dictate policy, there is no abolishing ICE.

Voters can correct their 2024 votes in 2026. It won't get rid of Trump who got to choose his cabinets & the direction of this country but it will help.

A Ship Attack Has Shaken Asia’s Faith in the US For the first time since 1945, a US submarine has sunk an enemy warship. When the Iranian navy ship IRIS Dena went down, it was 2,000 miles from home and seven nautical miles from Sri Lankan waters. Both those figures are of importance, for different reasons.

The US decision to torpedo an Iranian ship thousands of miles from conflict suggests America is no longer a responsible presence in Asia's waters

While Kristi Noem funneled $220M in taxpayer funds into self-promoting political ads, she refused to distribute $500M+ in FEMA funding for LA Fire survivors.

The Trump Administration must immediately release that relief and redirect those wasted ad dollars to recovery efforts.

But his one forbidden tattoo was the Nazi symbol on his chest. He knew - and he left the Marines rather than give it up. 1/
