I sometimes wonder whether Blair ever learned anything from his disastrous support for Bush in Iraq.
He clearly didn't.

Itβs time to end Britainβs first-past-the-post election lottery
βAn electoral system should do two things: ensure that the majority rules and that significant minorities are adequately represented. First past the post achieves neither.β

Geopolitical turmoil in the Middle East once again shows that reliance on volatile oil and gas exposes economies to price shocks.
Renewables, electrification and storage offer more stable long term energy costs and stronger energy security.
They might have a 50% requirement for affordable homes in the Local Plan but the Labour Administration frequently kowtows to developers who claim that their profit margin is too low. Prime example is Oxford North where they allowed it to be reduced to 35%. Disgraceful.
Nigel Farage is in Mar-a-Lago tonight (not Clacton, obvs). Via Politico: "What Farage should be doing: Sorting out his Reform documents with Companies House. The party is overdue on submitting a [legally mandatory] statement."
Screenshot of a Mirror article with the headline, βNigel Farage jets off to meet Donald Trump and βtalk down Britainβ at swanky dinnerβ.
Itβs nice to know where Nigelβs priorities are. ποΈ
@climatebrown.bsky.social I assume you know about this?
Trump's upending of world order makes rejoining the EU much MUCH more urgent, critical and valuable.
As global supply chains crumble and horizons shrink, it benefits us to be as friendly as it's possible to be with the countries that will ALWAYS be geographically closest to us.
Surely that one war crime too far even for them?
I see Farage is off to Mar-a-Lago to talk down Britain and suck up to Trump.
There's nothing patriotic about cheering on a foreign leader whose illegal war is sending British familiesβ energy bills through the roof.
Iceland's looking to the EU - what is the UK waiting for? The National, 5 March.
Non-EU countries across the continent are realising the benefits of joining the EU. EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has said βit is increasingly about security, about belonging and about preserving our ability to act in a world of competing spheres of influence. This concerns all Europeans."
I am proud that @libdems.org.uk introduced premium funding to ensure disadvantaged children - wherever they live - get more support at school. Ministers are proposing to "rebalance" funding and need to come clean as to who will lose out, and guarantee cash will always follow the child.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Where do they find them?
That will be Telegraph editor and former IEA staffer Annabel Denham.
Couldn't agree more with @rostaylor.bsky.social here. My fear in 2016 was that a leave vote would unleash far more sinister opinions and the beginning of ethno-nationalism

Surely the poor things would be welcome in the British Virgin Islands or other 'tax avoidance' countries? Perhaps Tice would be welcome in Russia.....
Started World Book Day by shouting at a six-year-old that while Frozen is indeed loosely based on a Hans Christian Andersen story, Elsa is solely a movie character so her costume travesties the whole concept of World Book Day, no, stop, why are you crying?
Women are natural community leaders. Yet their representation in Local Government remains sluggishly low at just over 1/3 elected representatives.
I got into politics as I saw the issues with our education system from being a teacher for over a decade.
One of the biggest issues in my inbox is SEND provision, and parents are crying out for change.
Missed this while I was off. A Kent county councillor (elected for Reform) has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after admitting controlling & coercive behaviour.
There's a by-election next month in his seat, and it looks like another Green/Reform/Labour fight...

Still, something something man of the people,
Very good by Wera. We need to also reduce/remove VAT on solar PV, batteries and installation costs to encourage homeowners to do this.
Reform is making a mistake on Iran
The party is throwing its weight behind an unpopular and perilous cause
Panicking about the May elections I think. Under attack from us, the Greens and Reform/IOA particularly in their East Oxford heartland. Their U Turn on transport policy will do them no good at all.
Farage: "We want to scrap postal voting except for people who genuinely need it."
"Didn't you vote by post at the last election?" Nigel
Farage: "I did yeah.." π€¦

An incredible retraction by the Daily Telegraph today. They have apologised for publishing an article last year headlined: βWe earn Β£345k, but soaring private school fees mean we canβt afford to go on five holidays.β The entire story was fabricated; the family did not exist.
Perhaps he didn't pass the Entrance Exam?
It is absolutely right that our Armed Forces have a duty to protect British citizens abroad.
Itβs also right that tax exiles have a duty to their country to pay their taxes, whether theyβre right-wing political pundits or washed-up footballers.

Lib Dem Lisa Smart MP in last night's democracy bill debate: "Unlimited donations mean unlimited influence. They corrode public trust and distort political priorities. Until we cap donations, we will continue to have a democracy that is for sale." (there's still no plan for a cap on donations)
