For 10 years, photojournalist @tchypsanava.bsky.social photographed the Tūhoe people living in Te Urewera, a New Zealand rainforest.

Documenting this Indigenous community has brought her an intimate understanding of their lives.

Many thanks to photographer Sara Escobar for taking pictures of our exhibit presentation at the PhotoVogue Festival for The VII Foundation, which has just finished in Milan. It was an honor to be invited to have the "Ruatoki" project be part of this year's Square Mile initiative:

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Such an honor to be included in the NYT The Year in Pictures. It's a wonderful way to wrap up what has been a challenging year. It was a great idea to include quotes from the photographers about how they created those images.

..This year was made up of such extraordinary moments. And Times photographers captured them in extraordinary images. The Year in Pictures brings you the most powerful, evocative and history-making of those images — and allows you to see the biggest stories of 2024 through our photographers’ eyes..
