Think we may have lost the moral high ground when it comes to dispensing refugee advice to other countries.
More broadly, the US has been simultaneously telling Europe it is destroying itself by accepting refugees from the Middle East, and also setting the scene for the next refugee criss.

This may be the most unhelpful framing I've ever seen of a war. The UK is not a child, Trump is not - despite Mark Rutte's comment - daddy, and the decision to risk British lives and spend British money fighting a war without clear legality or aims is not an issue of the UK "behaving" for the US.

After years of delays and blocks by Speaker Johnson, the January 6 plaque honoring officers who defended the Capitol is finally installed.

4 a.m.. No ceremony. Just workers bolting it to the wall while DC slept.

Apparently the only safe way to acknowledge J6 in Trumpโ€™s Washington is in the dark.

for those unaware, this would be perfidy, explicitly prohibited by the 1907 Hague convention and 1977 protocol to the Geneva conventions as war crimes; these (particularly The Hague convention) are customary international law and thus binding on Israel

AI error or not, Iran school bombing is a permanent stain on Americaโ€™s soul | Will Bunch A debate on AI in warfare obscures the truth about an Iran school bombing. U.S. humans are to blame for this war crime.

They had names. They had beautiful faces. And they had the same dreams as your kids - crushed when American "precision" bombs slammed into their Minab elementary school, killing 175

Don't blame AI for this. Blame the sick humans who see war as a game

Just fascinating to see Blair, a man whose reputation was ruined by the Iraq war, advocate joining a war that is exponentially stupider and more chaotic. How is it possible to learn nothing from the worst mistake of your life?

The competence issue matters because what is at stake here is not, as many commentators claim and, no doubt, some political activists and voters hope, that Labour need to respond to the by-election defeat with a โ€˜lurch to the leftโ€™. Setting an immigration policy which is fair, rational, and consonant with economic and demographic needs is not, in itself, โ€˜left-wingโ€™. Operating an efficient and humane asylum process is not, in itself, โ€˜left-wingโ€™. Making a clear distinction between immigration and asylum policies is not, in itself, โ€˜left-wingโ€™. To think otherwise is to cede the idea that these are somehow โ€˜extremeโ€™ propositions and that the policies of virtually zero immigration, mass deportation, and the near-total rejection of asylum seekers advocated by Reform and others are the โ€˜normโ€™ or โ€˜moderateโ€™.

As @chrisgrey.bsky.social says, rejecting Mahmood's plans would not be a "lurch to the left" but simply about restoring a basic level of (economic, political and administrative) competence.

Why has Blair thought it was a good idea to share his opinion? It's like Liz Truss constantly talking about how her economic plan was thwarted, just reminds people of the lettuce. The best thing he could've said is "I made mistakes with Iraq, I'm glad Kier isn't making those same mistakes with Iran"

farage giving up on being a populist alternative & instead focusing on replacing the tories as the main right wing party under FPTP means you get a very healthy framing of a war no-one in the country likes through the tussle for credibility amongst deranged conservative elites

Starmerโ€™s position is entirely consistent with what he wrote about Iraq in 2003, a fact of enormous inconvenience to just about everybody currently criticising it. Happily for them, just like the entire bloody Chilcot Inquiry it is apparently very easy to ignore.

Pete Hegseth's murderous buffoonery, coming amid a lifetime in which he's betrayed everyone close to him and failed up from one disaster to the next, is a perfect example of how the appeal of Trumpism is that it creates a permission structure for people to openly be their worst selves

Reform won't disenfranchise Commonwealth voters by 2029 (maybe after)

They won't see lesson as

'We risk hitting 1/3 ceiling by being Trump polarisers in Britain'

'We're not sufficiently trusted on foundations of race + who we see as truly British by minorities + younger/graduate white Britons'

Ethnic minorities: 7/10 generally racist, 1/6 generally not.

23 year old Ruben Ray Martinezโ€™s last words? โ€œIโ€™m sorry sirโ€.

ICE shot him 3 times and killed him.

Renee Goodโ€™s last words? โ€œItโ€™s ok Iโ€™m not madโ€.

Alex Prettiโ€™s last words? โ€œAre you ok?โ€

These are the people DHS calls domestic terrorists. Threats. Aggressors.

Abolish ICE

The right-wing used to go bonkers about the UK negotiating common EU consumer protection rules.

Now they believe Britain shld join any US military operation โ€œregardless of our own interests, our own views or our own democratic processesโ€.

They want โ€œtotal subservience to American decision-makingโ€

As always: its not just grammars you're bringing back, its secondary moderns.

And no one wants their kids to go to one. Which is a issue when 75% of kids will do so.

Always missed in this debate. You're making the education of the majority worse, to privilage a small minority.

Maybe not discussed much but with Sen. Mullin leaving, until he is replaced,
the GOP margin the House is now 52R-47D, and they have just just a two vote margin (counting VP Vance too as tie breaker). Lose three votes and the vote fails.
