That solution involved selecting all those blank rows, using a couple of clear commands to strip them of invisible formatting, and then deleting
didn't work
but did remove formatting from cells I didn't have selected

Oh, there's a feature where you can use Windows key + V to cycle through the last few things you pasted and use one again, that sounds handy.
