Four lessons COVID taught us about the immune system In the midst of pandemic upheaval, researchers have gained fundamental insights about how the body fends off infections.

Some learnings about our immune system from Covid @nature.com
—importance of T cells (not just neutralizing antibodies)
—key role of interferons, the first line of defense
—hybrid immunity

If you know anything about the history of post-infectious illnesses, like Long Covid and ME/CFS, this happening in The Hague is hugely symbolic.

A crisis of choice built on hubris and perpetuated by failed systems that refuse to learn from destroying millions of lives.

Fascinating paper from Manuel Ruiz Pablos Bruno Paiva, showing that the survivor genes of our ancestors may be responsible for our overactive immune systems getting out of whack and the host developing autoimmune diseases such as #longcovid #mecfs #myalgicencephalomyelitis #postvac.

Manuscript: Virus-induced endothelial senescence as a cause and driving factor for ME/CFS and long COVID: mediated by a dysfunctional immune system

Figure shows: Overview of the present hypothesis. Acute viral infections induce endothelial senescence via direct and indirect mechanisms, which is then sustained by immune dysfunction and impaired clearance of senescent endothelial cells. (EC - endothelial cell).

New important publication in #LongCovid & #MECFS!

After a viral infection, cells lining our blood vessels can become damaged and enter senescence, similar to accelerated aging. These cells are not healthy, but they also don’t disappear. Instead, they send out constant stress & inflammatory signals.

'ME and Long Covid have brought my children's lives to a standstill'

Talvin, 12, is among 1.3 million people in the UK with ME or Long COVID.

Diagnosed with ME/CFS, he later developed Long COVID at age 8 after 3 COVID infections, suffers with severe fatigue, and sleep and cognitive issues.

Please don’t say ‘learn to live with Covid’ to folks who are vulnerable or have long covid. We have no clean air or good vaccine access or antivirals. There is no moving on, there is just further death and disability. Also everyone is at risk from long Covid. We must learn to live in a safer way.

One of the greatest barriers for addressing the #LongCOVID crisis is public invisibility. To make the illness more legible to the public, Kayli Jamieson’s research team has launched a photo exhibition called Living with Long COVID at the Museum of Vancouver. bit.ly/4byOFlX

An Uber driver asked a passenger why they were wearing a mask. The passenger explained COVID transmission is high and reinfection could worsen their Long COVID. The driver said he hadn’t heard of this and advised “building immunity” and positivity, showing widespread misunderstanding of Long COVID.

A discovery in the muscles of long COVID patients may explain exercise troubles Long COVID patients can experience severe energy crashes after physical exertion. New research provides clear evidence that there's a biological basis for the symptoms.

Here’s another article explaining why this happens to people with long covid. I want to note: you can get long Covid even if you’re acute case of Covid was mild and you can get even if you are vaccinated. Many people with long Covid are former gym heads like us. It’s not just a disease of “the weak”
