Henrietta Lacks' Family Reaches Settlement in Fight Over Her Stolen Cells
Details of the Novartis agreement aren't public, but the family says it is pleased with the outcome.
A long overdue reckoning for Henrietta Lacks — the Black woman whose cancer cells led to breakthroughs but were harvested without her consent. Novartis has settled a lawsuit by Lacks’ estate that alleged the pharmaceutical giant profited off her cells.

Women in relationships with police officers are at extremely high risk of physical and sexual violence including lethal violence- not just when leaving. But leaving ratchets it up to a whole new level. Even if she gets out, he could wait & come for her & her kids a year later. Cops cover for cops.

Dr. Seuss’ work was so racist that the National Education Association moved away from centering him in Read Across America. The fact that schools, especially in BIPOC communities, are still centering his books during RAA is maddening.

He was a political cartoonist too. In HS their way of giving a balanced view of his legacy was to show that he was begging the U.S. to fight the Nazis AND lock all the Japanese Americans up so they can’t spy. They decided not to show us the sambo cartoons at all.

Here's picture of Black X-men going back 50 years.
Guess how many have been depicted in a relationship with another Black character? 1 -- Storm, and it wasn't even another X-man.
15 Black characters... 95% of them have never been portrayed as an example of Black love.
That's a problem. 1/

If it grows in under 30 days, it’s basically a financial loophole 🌱.
Cheat food you can start today 🤫: radishes, arugula, lettuce, spinach etc.

AirFanta air purifiers
Official website of AirFanta air purifiers.
The Seattle Clean Air Crew lent us Air Fanta room filters for ConCurrent and they were fantastic and super quiet. I have a handheld one for myself I that I use in tight spaces with lots of people (+mask).

Happy Heavenly Birthday to A.P. Tureaud, Sr. He was the only Black attorney in New Orleans at times during the early decades of the last century. In the 1950’s & 60’s, he was the local attorney that worked with the NAACP on their cases that were filed in New Orleans. #Creole #BlackHistoryMonth⚜️🖤💛 🇺🇸

ICE demanded an ID, but she held her ground
A viral video shows a Minneapolis resident calmly resisting federal immigration agents.
Nimco Omar, someone I’ve had the privilege of hearing her stories shows the bravery & burden that Minnesotans & people around the country are being asked to carry. The flashpoint was MN, but is coming to a community near you. Institutions must step up, too.

I really appreciate this TikToker with Tourette syndrome, Shay, for taking the time to educate so many of us (including me) about her disability and coprolalia in light of what happened at the BAFTAs with John Davidson when Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage.
I learned a lot.

They don't care. They probably think we're being too sensitive. Which goes to tell you they don't really have a slur that really negatively affects them (and they are not oppressed even though they like to act like it when convenient). They only understand what they can personally relate to.

#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day
Anarcha, Lucy & Betsey were
enslaved women in Alabama that Dr. J Marion Sims experimented without consent or anesthesia. Anarcha was experimented on the most, >30 times.
They are known as the "Mothers of Gynecology" for what they endured.

He has a disability. Therefore, he doesn't need to apologize for the dehumanizing harm he caused because of his disability. Typical white supremacist thinking.

I'm seeing a lot of responses #OnHere that show Black people being fully aware of what Tourette's is and still being rightfully pissed about what happened to MBJ and Delroy, and those same Black people being spoken to as if we should be more understanding about the N-word being said to us in public.
