Following on from conversation in the last pod, does this
BBC headline after City's draw with Forest prove we have already entered the business end of the season? Presumably, Arsenal's draw with Wolves wasn't part of business end as that would surely constitute a blinking (and hence be the first).

Spot on about World Cup bunting - no pub that does it in a half-hearted fashion deserves my custom. Also, if Charlie doesn't like 'what I would say' as a rhetorical device, I'd suggest not listening to Lindsay Hoyle (speaker of the house of commons) - he uses it in every second sentence πŸ™„.

This sounds like a classic example of 'enshittification'. What Preply is doing sounds like a deliberate effort to make the user experience worse and the pay for tutors as low as possible.

Sorry to be a pedant, but the 88:88 palindrome only works if there are 90 seconds in a minute. Loved the Saipan interview last week though - some great questions by Dave.

Corrected AI - Essay correction for English language teachers Cambridge | IELTS | Michigan | LanguageCert | MSU | NOCN | LRN | ESB | TRINITY ISE | VTCT | HAU | Hellenic American University | CEFR A1 A2 B1 B2 C1 C2 | ECCE | ECPE | BCCE | ABLE

Just had a play around with an AI correction service (corrected.ai) with some IELTS task 2 essays. It's spectacularly bad - frequently correcting errors that are not errors and cannot even display band scores correctly. Worse than ChatGPT (which is also bad).

Loved cubs football. Career highlight was scoring in the Freeman-Hardy Plate final at Christchurch Meadow (home of Belper Town). Don't remember getting a badge for playing, but do remember getting a journalism badge for writing a match report - I think the headline was 'Holbrook hit Belper for six'.

I think more of an issue with some in our fan base is players getting written off too quickly. Hope the same doesn't happen to Barry as there is definitely something there to work with.

I agree that the Tarkowski criticism goes a bit too far sometimes. Not sure I can think of an obviously underrated player, but I used to rate McNeil higher than most other Evertonians. I think his injury last season was a large part of the reason for Dyche getting sacked.

Not a Derby fan but used to live nearby, so nice to hear the voice of Graham Richards from BBC Radio Derby again. A bit of a local legend until he decided it was a good idea to describe Brian Deane as 'going down like the World Trade Centre.' For context, he uttered these words on 15.9.2001 πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Standing with Maccabi’s football hooligans against local police – is that what patriotism looks like now? | Jonathan Liew Tommy Robinson is said to be going to Villa Park as a Maccabi Tel Aviv fan. Do the politicians jumping on this bandwagon care what they are doing, asks Guardian columnist Jonathan Liew

I'll take back some of what I wrote (about Guardian) after reading this excellent piece by @jonathanliew.bsky.social. A sorely needed counterpoint to the hysterical overreaction to a sensible policing decision by large sections of the political and media class (including @barneyronay.bsky.social).

21.10.2025 07:38 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

It's not pearl-clutching to expect that a newspaper like the Guardian to report the facts accurately, and not parrot the views of right-wing politicians. Barney's piece was gaslighting those of us not especially keen for a gang of racist football hooligans having the red carpet rolled out for them.

21.10.2025 00:53 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Thank you @barryglendenning.bsky.social for talking a lot more sense about the Maccabi Tel Aviv debacle than your colleague @barneyronay.bsky.social. The way he whitewashed previous examples of racism and hooliganism by MT fans is a stain on the reputation of a supposedly progressive newspaper.

20.10.2025 14:52 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, how silly does @barneyronay.bsky.social feel now after Maccabi Tel Aviv fans have once again been shown up to be a bunch of racist, violent football hooligans? Will he blame Zack Polanski for what happened in Tel Aviv last night? πŸ€”

Given the political climate in the UK right now, it's funny how the whole of the UK political establishment are falling over themselves to allow a group of violent racist foreigners into the country just to watch a football match πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Discussion of Leeds own goal on Totally Football Show podcast made reference around the use of the word bizarre being the 'go to' word that kind of own goal (around 57:25 mark). What other adjectives can be used in that situation? I was thinking 'unfortunate', but perhaps that underplays it a bit?
