I've had a bunch of conversations this week mentioning this, & I'm... well, not surprised, but I am feeling very "Oh! Shit!" about the number of people who don't know this. I've talked to some people who didn't know Philly had any other bees but honeybees. They thought that was the ONLY bee here!

Honeybees are the dairy cows of bees. People brought them over from Europe to make us honey.
The problem with honeybees, esp in resource-limited ecosystems (like hey! cities!) is that they compete with our native bees for food.
