It's really funny to see Squeenix make this huge fuss about Nier Automata getting a sequel when news came out a few months ago that they outright cancelled a Nier sequel that Taro was working on.

Anyone who parades AI's presumed competency replacing workers *as a result of its competency* ALWAYS either:
A. Has a vested interest in you believing that AI is inevitable and is better than you and everyone you know at absolutely everything.

Anyone who says that AI will be replacing any sort of programmer in the next five years, let alone the next six months, has absolutely no goddamned idea what they're talking about.
I remember helping a local game dev school with a lot of their projects, and *so many* of the projects I saw were just...nothingburgers. Games with 0 functional identity or games that are made with no perspective of playing the game *as a gamer*. They felt utterly empty and devoid of passion.
Hot take but a massive amount of the "bloat" game development as an industry deals with is a direct result of forcing game devs to work on mediocre games made as a product to support a business and "be safe" rather than...ya know. a game.
I recently got approved to take the SANS Incident Handler course (SEC504), and there's a frankly unbelievable amount of AI dogshit in this course.

Yes, Metroid Prime (the creature not the game) can be argued as being the same, but you don't really get to make that comparison when not only does every other scan log reference your very existence, but you kind of have the entire series named after you.
Having just finished MP4, and having grown up with Hunters as one of my absolute favorite game, it honestly baffles me how much they gassed up Sylux as part of the game and he legit isn't there for 95% of it.
The stuff AI "can do" is already being done more affordably and more reliably by literally any other tech *right now*. AI vendors are only "affordable" by virtue of being held up by VC firms with a shitton of money to burn because they're staffed by either actual psychopaths or chronic bag holders.
As someone who lived through the Dot Com bubble of the 2000's and the Cloud bubble of the 2010's, AI is following the exact same pattern:
- A ton of companies buy into it to have it without knowing why
- Costs uncontrollably ballooning because vc firms want their money
- Pop goes the weasel
There's going to be an entire generation of directors, managers, and executives who will have built their career off of simply saving companies going all-in on AI.
