I hear the notion of regime collapse a lot lately like in this article by CSIS Americas Director Ryan Berg. In the #Venezuelan case Regime collapse won’t function as analysts are predicting because the state already functions in many ways like a failed state.

Dark times are ahead for the Catatumbo region in Colombia. The two Guerilla groups in the area who used to have a power sharing agreement are now fighting over control. This will be especially horrible for all civilians. Public life is already at a standstill.

Illegal gold mining is all over the place and spreading like a disease. Although I am even more worried about mining Guayana and Venezuela. You can see how fast the mining is expanding through Google earth.
